Job Summary: The Recreation Therapist plans and conducts activities for clients/patient groups, working individually or as a member of the treatment team. The position will also assist patients in leisure activities to engage and improve mind, body, and spirit, and patient adjustment to life with disease injury or disability, analyzing and reporting behavioral patterns to the treatment team or others. The incumbent is required to requisition, store, and maintain equipment and supplies. The objective is to effect improvement in the client's physical, mental, and social well-being. Assesses and evaluates patient needs and interests through various means relative to Recreational and/or Social Adjustment. Develops and implements individualized therapy plan and executes it keeping everyone abreast of progress through written and verbal reports. Schedules patients, and keeps attendance and therapy records. Interfaces with utilization review social services, discharge planner, and therapy team to assist in successful patient discharge. Assess and suggest purchases for equipment and supplies that pertain to therapeutic recreation. Abides by department policies and procedures and operational guidelines. Supervises students and volunteers. Participates in departmental in-service teaching and other departmental activities. Functions under the general supervision of a coordinator/Clinical Director. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy or Therapeutic Recreation and a minimum of 1 year related experience required. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (issued by NCTRC) is required.
