We are looking for a self-motivated individual that is willing to work aboard our Basic Life Support Ambulances. Incumbents are responsible for a wide variety of Emergency Medical Technician duties aboard our Advance Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) Ambulances. These duties include patient care and driving a company vehicle in emergency operations. Incumbents administer basic life support treatment to the sick or injured persons in the pre-hospital and interfacility settings and as authorized by Medical Direction, by performing the following duties within the prescribed scope of practice and within all applicable regulatory guidelines for pre-hospital and interfaculty transport and care. Monitors communications equipment to maintain contact with dispatcher. Responsible for safe efficient transportation of ill or injured persons to appropriate destinations by ambulance. Determines nature and extent of illness or injury, or magnitude of catastrophe, to establish basic life support procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance, basing decisions on statements of persons involved, examination of victim or victims, and knowledge of emergency medial practice. Responsible for the correct Basic Life Support (BLS) treatment of patients. Removes or assists in removal of victims from vehicles, or the scene of an accident or catastrophe, and assists in the transfer of victims to receiving facilities. Assists in controlling crowds, protecting valuables, or performing other duties at scene of an accident or catastrophe. Takes and records patient's vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate. Administers prescribed treatment at the site of an emergency ,or in specially equipped vehicles, performing such activities as first aid, immobilization of injuries, application of splints, administration of oxygen treatment of minor wounds or abrasions, or administration of basic life support procedures. Assists admitting and billing personnel to obtain and record information related to the patient's vital statistics and to establish the necessity for medical transportation. Maintains crew's quarters, vehicles and medical communication equipment and replenishes equipment and supplies. Completes field care reports patient billing and trip records. Shall perform a daily check of assigned ambulance and appropriate emergency care equipment and shall document vehicle stock -on appropriate forms. Participates in Quality Improvement activities including chart audits, peer reviews and focused studies. Participates in continuing education activities as a student, instructor, and proctor. Serves as a company representative promoting positive customer relationships through proactive involvement in public business and community activities. Must be able to work a variety of shift assignments including 12 hour and 24 hour shifts, week-ends, and holidays, and are also subject to mandatory overtime. Shall respond to emergency and non-emergency transports as directed by the Communications Center. Shall operate communications equipment in their assigned ambulance as prescribed by company policy and all applicable ordinances by laws. Shall comply with all company policies and procedures and all applicable ordinances or laws. Shall operate vehicles and equipment in a safe and prudent manner and adhere to all company policies or procedures and applicable ordinances or laws governing such operations. Shall maintain on person at all times current certificates as required. Additional Duties may be assigned. Physical agility required accessing all areas of emergency sites and buildings, and traversing uneven terrain. Vision and hearing at or correctable to normal ranges. Must be able to detect odors. Ideal Candidate Will Have: Valid Drivers License Valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services EMT Credential Valid Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Credential Be at least 18 years old
