Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, Operations Manager or Pharmacy Director, performs a wide variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital wide Unit Dose distribution system. Responsible to maintain confidential reports, procure and fill requests for pharmaceutical supplies, and deliver supplies to nursing units. Location: 680 Centre Street, Brockton, MA Department: Pharmacy This is a weekend per diem position Responsibilities: Fills patient or Omnicell envelopes with the correct drug from the Pharmacist's order entry, prior to Pharmacist's check and delivers checked envelopes in an accurate and timely manner using supplemental restock or patient room bin as directed by the Pharmacist. Fills, checks and delivers Omnicell medications (correcting expiration dates as needed) appropriately off the restock lists utilizing par levels and restock numbers. Completes Restocking Check List. Proficient in Omnicell procedures (normal restock, supplemental restock, room stocking, destock, cycle count, and expired). Proficient at unloading (deleting) and loading medications in Omnicell. Able to access inventory aging reports and add medications to a unit from the Master List. Delivers controlled substances with accuracy using the appropriate Omnicell procedures for report tracking purposes. Empties controlled substance return bin and delivers return bin contents with return slip noting discrepancies to the designated narcotic pharmacist. Checks the expirations of the stock epidurals and neonatal morphines on assigned units. Assists individuals at the pharmacy window. Answers telephone and directs calls to appropriate pharmacy staff. Maintains dress code according to policy/procedure. Correctly prepackages and labels medications in a unit dose form from a bulk supply according to policy and procedures. Fills code boxes as needed for pharmacist to check. Assembles SANE kits, intubation kits, OBS kits and TB medications as assigned by pharmacist or Operations Manager. Checks inpatient and ED units for transfer of bulk medication (i.e., inhalers) daily as scheduled utilizing the patient transfer lists. Records refrigerator temperatures as assigned daily notifying Operations Manager or pharmacist on duty of any deviations from acceptable temperatures. Assists in the performance of quality assurance involving the operation of the department as assigned. Prepares all medication according to Pharmacy guidelines. Calculates and measures proper medication dosages under the direction of the pharmacist. Accurately checks that IV's are properly labeled with the required information and any other pertinent information deemed necessary by the Intravenous Admixture Guidelines. Accurately delivers intravenous admixtures at scheduled delivery time. Proper return of unused Intravenous Admixtures for return to inventory. Runs hourly refill lists for program update. Responsible for the safe and careful handling of oncology medications. Responsible for the proper disposal of all materials used in the preparation of oncology medication. Completes medication unit inspections quarterly according to schedule including Omnicells, treatment/procedure rooms, clean rooms (for IV bags) and code cart expirations. Completes monthly expiration report for assigned unit. Cleans automated dispensing unit with each inspection. Assists in the training of other personnel. Returns medications to stock as needed. Maintain a neat and orderly workplace Assists in maintaining inventory control and adequate supplies necessary for the daily operation of the department. Checks expiration dates and rotates stock in the Pharmacy Department and nursing areas. Assess IV admixture room and department needs. Places order tri-weekly with storeroom by computer. Puts items received from storeroom away in timely manner (within 24 hours) Performs other duties as required or assigned. BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE: Ability to work with sustained attention and precision on routine, repetitive tasks. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with accuracy, precision and dependability. Ability to distinguish routine functions from those requiring professional judgment. Requires three to four-month orientation period in the area of unit dose distribution system to achieve familiarity with drug names, strengths, dosage forms, and routes of administration, understanding of department's policies and procedures; and location of patient units. Requires two (2) to four (4) months' sterile products preparation experience for IV Admixture duties. Requires bending and reaching. Must be able to move freely throughout hospital using delivery cart. Prior hospital experience preferred. Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Science and mathematical background desired. Experience: Certification/Licenses: Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Massachusetts or be eligible to be registered Software/Hardware: Meditech, IDX and AllScripts experience preferred.
