MEDICAL LAB TECHNOLOGIST - TRAVEL 12 hour days VA Center Drive, Augusta, Maine 04330 Required: The MT must be a nationally certified MT with three (3) years of recent chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology experience. Certification: ASCP (MT), ASCP (CLS), ASCP (MLS), or AMT Shift: Must be flexible with shifts. The MT will have a primary shift; However, they may be asked to cover for other shifts. Duties and Responsibilities: Medical Lab Technologist support laboratory-based scientific investigations by carrying out routine technical tasks and experiments. Lab technicians work with laboratory equipment to analyze samples or substances, they conduct tests on those samples or substances, and report on their findings. Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting specimens, and checking specimens' delivery. Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance. Serves as a technical resource by participating in staff training. Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel. Identifies the presence or quantity of drugs in the patient's system. Provides test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating chemistry equipment. Ensures the patient of receiving compatible blood by completing blood typing, antibody screening, and compatibility testing. Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Maintains patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential. Education and Experience Requirements: Associate's or bachelor's degree in medical technology 3 years of medical laboratory experience required Needs to be in possession of any state license (ANY STATE ACCEPTED) Additional Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods of time Excellent attention to detail Exceptional problem-solving and critical-thinking skills Research and analysis skills Ability to multitask Ability to follow biohazard guidelines Excellent verbal and written communication Ability to work independently and within a team environment Ability to closely read instructions
