The team's primary focus is on monthly close processes; however, the team is also heavily involved in financial reporting, IT process improvements, management reporting, and other projects within the finance organization.The Senior Accounting Associate will be part of the corporate accounting team. The Senior Associate will also work closely with the financial planning & analysis and tax teams and will participate in aspects of the company's internal/external audit, tax compliance and financial reporting efforts. This position requires a motivated and hard-working individual who has a strong attention to detail, organizational and interpersonal skills. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to both the month-end close process as well as various process improvement projects. The position reports to an Accounting Manager.Job ResponsibilitiesResponsible for aspects of the month-end financial close including reviewing contracts and performing calculations to prepare journal entriesResponsible for preparing balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basisPrepare written explanations for month-over-month fluctuation analysis within balance sheet & P&L reviewsAssist in the preparation of month end reporting packages for senior leadershipResponsible for answering questions about the Company's financial statement and operational finance performance to others within finance and the businessMaintain internal controls over financial accounting and reporting processes in compliance with SOX. Assist in the identification of risks and implementation of new controls when necessary.Assist in information used in external reporting, specifically related to footnotes and disclosuresAssist with audit requests for internal and external auditorsContinually assess and design new and improved ways of doing things, particularly focused on driving efficiencies and automationAssist in systems implementation, upgrading testing and rollouts of new features in the general ledger system (Oracle) for both efficiency and reportingAssist in various special other special projects that ariseTypical QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, or equivalent work experience required2-5 years of Public accounting experience and/or equivalent experience in industry requiredIntermediate experience with Microsoft Excel requiredKnowledge of US GAAP preferredExcellent communication skills, including strong ability to understand your audience and adapt communication to this audienceAbout athenahealthHere's our vision:"¯To create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all."¯ What's unique about our locations?
