Director of Sustainability - Campus Dining

Job DescriptionAs the Sustainability Director, you will be responsible for leading the implementation of our sustainability strategy at the University of Kentucky. There will be specific emphasis on food waste reduction, single-use reduction, carbon reduction, sustainable and diverse procurement, implementing sustainable practices, collaborating with functional departments to tell the sustainability story to our guests and clients, and building a culture of sustainability.Job ResponsibilitiesImplement a comprehensive sustainability program for dining and catering operationsDevelop and implement strategies to prioritize and increase the purchase of food products from local farmers and suppliers, supporting community agriculture, ensuring fresher ingredients, and reducing the organization?s carbon footprintEngage managers to implement and manage creative sustainability initiativesManage, analyze, and report on client and enterprise sustainability KPIs and metricsProvide guiding leadership regarding sustainability to operations team ? bolstering successWork with operations team on waste, energy, and water conservation initiativesFacilitate on-going sustainability training for management and hourly employeesDevelop and facilitate workshops, content, and meetings regarding sustainabilityPlan educational field trips for managers to local suppliers, waste infrastructure facilities, etc.Supervise, train, and monitor the activities of the operational team to accomplish sustainability goals in partnership with general management teamPartner with Managers and FLAs in kitchens to educate and provide in the moment coaching on sustainable food practicesParticipate in regular meetings with internal team, local clients, and external stakeholdersAt Aramark, developing new skills and doing what it takes to get the job done make a positive impact for our employees and for our customers. In order to meet our commitments, job duties may change or new ones may be assigned without formal notice. QualificationsDegree in a subject related to sustainability; Bachelor?s degree required (business, environment and/or sustainability)3 - 5+ years? experience working in sustainability team or specialized consultancyKnowledge of and experience with social and environmental matters, including interconnected issues; understands business and operations of large food companyInquisitive mind set with strong analytical abilities. Strategic thinker looking outside to bring new approaches to continually improve internal effectivenessHighly analytical, ability to synthesize information and offer recommendations/solutionsAbility to work independently and manage multi-stakeholder engagement from vision to implementationAbility to communicate and facilitate dialogue with those holding diverse and opposing views, by finding common ground and identifying opportunities to move forward.
