The CHS Middletown Food Service Assistant will help enable the nourishment and sustenance of young children with healthy meals to deliver a high-quality experience in line with CHS' mission. This role is responsible for assisting the Food Service Coordinator with the central kitchen food production for all classrooms and catered functions. The Food Service Assistant will help maintain process and safety standards, ensure food quality standards are met, and routing and delivery functions are accurately coordinated for events. This individual will assist in packaging and delivering food to classrooms. The Food Service Assistant reports to the Food Service Coordinator with whom they work to attend to risks and issues. Starting rate of pay is $15 to $17 an hour, depending on experience. Responsibilities: Working with the Food Service Coordinator hand-in-hand to prepare food service to the facilitySetting the proper temperature on equipment for products to be servedPackaging items as neededAttending periodic meetings to review the menu, catering, and techniques of the food service facilityCompleting dining room check lists and waste tracking sheetsPerforming dishwashing, cleaning, and sanitation needs to enhance the well-being of children and staffRemoving trash from kitchen and service areaComplying with departmental HACCP/Food Safety procedures and initiatives, applicable State health requirements to maintain integrity of the food and prevent food borne illness to children, staff, and guestsDisseminating snacks to children prior to relevant snack timesEnsuring children's dietary needs are met and that allergies are taken into account when preparing food for specific classroomsConducting safety checks and implementing corrective procedures where necessary Complying with health regulationsSetting up food at catered functions and eventsLoading and unloading catering van for events outside CHS MiddletownReporting maintenance concernsPreparing documentation for maintenance of the food safety programResponding to questions about allergy concerns to health professionals and parents when askedCompiling accurate data on food related itemsExhibiting positive relations towards children and faculty when responding to questions and communicationsQualifications: High School Diploma or GED Prior food service experience and/or knowledge of a variety of food productsFirst Aid, CPR, AED certificationsValid NSF ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain one within six months of hireAbility to respond to customer service-related issues Ability to maintain accurate records, understand, and carry out oral and written instructionsExceptional executive functioning, organizational, and time management skills, and an action-oriented mindsetResponsible, enthusiastic, and cares about working in a mission-focused organization Ability to proactively identify problems and implement solutions Willingness to be held accountable and receive feedbackCommitment to the mission and values of CHS and MHS and demonstrated high degree of integrity as all MHS and CHS staff are considered to be role models for childrenU.S. work authorization and successful completion of pre-employment background checks and clearances
