The successful candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong background in teaching, research, extension, outreach, and service, particularly in the areas of sustainable crop production and the protection of soil and water resources. Responsibilities for this role include leading and supervising faculty and staff, providing strategic leadership to ensure departmental excellence, and engaging in activities that promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. The Chair will also be responsible for recruiting and retaining top faculty, overseeing strategic planning, and ensuring the department's programs are dynamic and relevant to the needs of students and the profession. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field, a record of scholarly activities that meet the criteria for a tenured Professor, and evidence of successful leadership. Preferred qualifications include a strong track record in research, budget and personnel management, and experience in teaching and advancing academic programs. The role requires a leader who can effectively communicate and enhance the department's and college's missions, both within the academic community and with external stakeholders. The initial appointment is for five years, with a focus on administration, and the position is pivotal in maintaining the department's high national and international standing.
