The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all legal actions are in compliance with the Board's policies and the strategic plan. This role involves attending and acting as legal counsel at all Board of Education meetings, providing legal guidance on a wide range of matters including labor and employment, student rights, special education, real property, and public meetings, and preparing necessary legal documents. The General Counsel will also be involved in the development and implementation of legal instruments, contracts, and board policies, and will serve on the negotiating teams for collective bargaining. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company must have a B.S. or B.A. and a Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school, with a current license to practice law in Illinois. The role requires a candidate with a strong background in municipal and school law, outstanding legal and business judgment, and a proven track record of excellence in the legal field. The ideal candidate will have exemplary leadership capabilities and the ability to manage high-performing teams. Responsibilities also include conducting internal investigations, recommending outside counsel, and providing strategic direction for the Office of General Counsel.
