The successful candidate will be responsible for formulating and implementing policies that impact the Department, as well as managing the daily operations of the Legal Division, which includes over 30 staff members. This role involves representing the Department in various legal proceedings, assisting in the defense of lawsuits, and ensuring compliance with oversight obligations. The General Counsel will also be involved in drafting and reviewing legal documents, responding to subpoenas, and overseeing the Department's Risk Management and Accountability System. Applicants must be admitted to the New York State Bar and have a minimum of 4 years' legal experience, with at least 18 months in a supervisory capacity. The ideal candidate will have a JD and 10 years' legal experience, with a strong background in managing a legal team, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure. The role requires a strategic and collaborative approach, as well as the ability to interact with various city agencies and stakeholders. The General Counsel will also be involved in the BOC rulemaking process and must be adept at translating legal and policy matters into clear and concise information.
