This role is pivotal in the company's mission to deploy clean, fusion power plants on a global scale to combat climate change. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient execution of a diverse range of R&D projects, working closely with the Senior Director of R&D Engineering and the Chief Science Officer. Key responsibilities include leading a team of technical project managers, ensuring the successful delivery of each project, and maintaining the company's high standards of excellence in R&D execution. Applicants for the Head of R&D Projects position should have a minimum of 15 years' experience in delivering high-tech projects, with a proven track record of leading a large portfolio of projects across various disciplines. The role requires a results-oriented leader with a strong ability to solve complex problems and a deep understanding of technical products related to fusion, including power plant systems and superconducting magnet technology. Experience in an R&D setting with a focus on large hardware and testing, as well as the ability to work in a matrix organizational structure, is essential. An advanced technical degree in engineering or a related field is a plus, and a dedication to safety in industrial environments is a fundamental requirement.
