The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated team of planners responsible for conceiving and implementing complex multi-agency initiatives that promote inclusive growth in the city's neighborhoods and waterfronts. This role involves setting strategic direction, overseeing a portfolio of projects, and managing both internal and external teams. The Vice President will be expected to provide problem-solving, and coordination for multi-disciplinary teams, establish and oversee interagency working groups, and articulate a vision for future development and infrastructure projects. Strong leadership, communication, and community engagement skills are essential, as is a passion for and knowledge of New York City waterfronts, including climate resilience issues. Applicants for the Vice President position should have a Master's degree in urban planning or a related field, with at least 7 years of relevant work experience. A background in direct staff management, project management, and a solid understanding of the public planning and development process are required. The role demands a candidate with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, leadership skills, and a proven ability to engage with diverse communities using equitable approaches. The Vice President will also be responsible for managing 1-2 direct reports, providing mentorship to junior staff, and participating in larger policy initiatives. A residence in New York City is required within 180 days of hire, and the candidate should be adept at using spreadsheet and presentation applications.
