This role offers an environment that promotes independence while maintaining a great work-life balance.We are seeking a full-time litigation associate attorney with 2+ years of experience, who possesses extraordinary compassion and excellent organizational and communication skills. You will be part of our litigation team, handling fiduciary duty litigation, contested guardianships/conservatorships, and other ancillary business disputes, all while providing exceptional results and customer service to our clients.Position OverviewAs a Litigation Associate, you will work closely with the firm's litigation section chief, junior associate, and senior paralegal. Your responsibilities will range from factual/legal research and cite-checking, to drafting and assembling exhibits, complaints, briefs, pleadings, and motions, and making court appearances and trying cases.To develop subject matter expertise, you will also work with the firm's planning partners to understand estate and asset protection strategies for our clients.You will handle litigation matters directly with clients, oversee staff paralegals and support personnel, and positively represent the firm at all times with a success-oriented and professional demeanor. This position requires significant management responsibilities.Job Responsibilities: Act as the firm's primary attorney contact with clients for litigation matters Meet with potential clients to assess conflicts of interest, case quality, suitability for the firm's practice, and potential profitability Provide litigation support, including motions and trial practice in state courts and U.S. District Courts Delegate effectively and manage time wisely Collaborate daily with attorneys and co-workers to meet deadlines Respond to client, attorney, and team member questions and inquiries in a timely manner Assess prospective clients' needs and determine next steps Participate in professional development appropriate for your experience level Perform additional duties as assignedQualifications: Virginia State Bar admission (Maryland and District of Columbia Bar admission is a plus) A minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience in state/federal courts Positive attitude with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately with clients and team members Friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor Commitment to quality, critical thinking, focus, and consistent follow-through with clients and team members Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines Self-starter who exceeds expectations and is not content with "good enough" Confident, tenacious, and willing to "speak truth to power" when needed Ability to anticipate and adapt to an ever-changing schedule while maintaining adherence to deadlines Exercises diplomacy and discretion Commitment to effective teamwork, with a sense of humor, gratitude, and patience Reports to the litigation section lead but also coordinates efforts with the Practice ManagerAbout The CompanyAt our firm, we focus on elder law, estate planning, special needs law, and the resolution of disputes involving estate/trust matters, fiduciary duties, guardianships/conservatorships, and related practice areas.
