The Manager role is responsible for managing client assignments and projects and delivering a high-quality service. This includes coaching, advising and supporting team members in meeting client and self-development expectations. They have exhibited technical proficiency and the ability to supervise and complete engagements, possess a thorough knowledge of the firm's policies and procedures, and serve as intermediaries between partners, clients, and staff.Reports to: DirectorResponsibilities: Review Income Tax Returns and related workpapersDevelops and strengthens long-term relationships with senior client management and peer client levels. Plans, organizes and controls multiple responsibilities and resources to achieve assignment objectives.Helps develop solutions for clients and manages the implementation of ideas.Advises, coaches and supports team members including providing consistent recognition and encouragement to team members to increase retention and utilization.Successfully builds, directs and maintains a motivated and empowered work team.Structures work teams to successfully meet client expectations and help develop strong client partnerships.Anticipates project issues, assesses alternatives and takes appropriate measure to resolve assignment issues.Manages project budget and profitabilityAnticipates and communicates budget issues, identifies opportunities to improve assignment profitability Prepares Client billingsIdentifies client needs/opportunities to sell additional value-added services.Identifies cross-selling opportunities and refers them to the appropriate team member.Leverages commercial and market knowledge to anticipate client needs for new/additional services.Supports the partner in the development and planning of practice objectives and budgets.Development of functional specialization and/or industry expertise.Supports the Directors in developing new initiatives to increase retention, meet resourcing needs (including recruitment interviews), utilization and people development.Builds strong coaching skills.Actively pursues self-development opportunities in line with the competency model.Key Success Factors: Tax expertise.Project management skills. Team management skills including an ability to lead, direct and coach.Client relationship skills.Technical knowledge and a developing area of expertise.Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or relatedMaster's Degree in Accounting, or related completed or in Progress (or equivalent experience)CPA DesignationSkills / Experience6+ years of public accounting experience, in the field of taxationIncome Tax expertiseExpertise in specific industriesStrong client relationship skillsStrong project management skillsStrong team management skills - the ability to lead, motivate and coach teams of peopleDemonstrated ability to coach and develop less experienced team membersA strong knowledge of firm services in the tax department and a working knowledge of products and services in other practice areas of the firm.A sound understanding of market trends including opportunities, global and local business initiatives and stakeholder/competitor interestsSee AICPA Core Competencies for additional qualifications
