Firm Overview: Our clients midsized CPA firm located in Manhattan, NY, is known for delivering exceptional tax, audit, and advisory services to a diverse client base across various industries, including real estate, financial services, professional services, and high-net-worth individuals. As they continue to expand, they are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Director / Partner to lead their tax department. This role is essential to driving both client satisfaction and firm growth through a blend of technical expertise, leadership abilities, and client relationship development. Position Summary: The Tax Director / Partner will be responsible for leading and managing the tax department, developing and implementing tax strategies for clients, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and fostering a high level of client engagement. This position is integral to the strategic direction of the firm and will be a key member of the firm's leadership team. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical tax expertise, a proven record of client service, and a significant, portable book of business that will help expand the firm's market presence.Key Responsibilities:Leadership & Strategy:Provide leadership and strategic direction for the tax department, including managing and mentoring a team of tax professionals to drive consistent quality and efficiency.Participate in firm leadership activities, including strategic planning, growth initiatives, and operational decision-making.Cultivate and maintain a client-centric, collaborative firm culture that encourages professional development, open communication, and a commitment to quality.Collaborate with other Partners and Directors to identify new business opportunities and service offerings.Technical Expertise & Compliance:Oversee all tax compliance and advisory services for the firm, ensuring alignment with current tax laws and industry regulations.Develop and implement innovative tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities and enhance client outcomes, focusing on the complexities specific to each client's industry and financial goals.Review and sign off on complex tax returns, including corporate, partnership, individual, trust, and estate tax returns, as well as multistate tax filings.Maintain an up-to-date understanding of changes in federal, state, and local tax laws, communicating these changes effectively to clients and team members.Client Relationship Management & Business Development:Leverage a strong, portable book of business to drive new client acquisition and expand existing relationships within the firm.Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing high-quality, strategic tax advice and solutions tailored to their specific needs.Lead and participate in client presentations, proposals, and negotiations to promote the firm's tax services and demonstrate technical expertise.Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional firm services, working collaboratively with other departments to deliver comprehensive financial solutions.Communication & Collaboration:Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly convey complex tax concepts and recommendations to clients and colleagues.Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, partners, and team members, fostering a collaborative environment.Provide regular, transparent updates to clients on project progress, tax planning strategies, and industry developments that may impact them.Mentorship & Team Development:Recruit, train, and develop tax department staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide constructive feedback to develop the technical and professional skills of team members.Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and shared success within the tax department.Qualifications:Education & Certification: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
