POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Education Teacher will provide individual or group educational instruction. Other major responsibilities include, but are not limited to: consultation with classroom teachers or other service providers, conducting initial evaluations, and formal/informal monitoring of a student's progress through daily log notes, quarterly reports, and annual review testing. This position serves children with various physical, behavior and developmental challenges ranging in age from birth-21 years old. RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:Utilizes assessment tools to gather information to determine eligibility and support plans.Delivers specialized individual and group instruction by adhering to mandated IEPs, ISFPs, etc.Consults/collaborates with other team members to better serve student's educational needs.Assesses and documents each child's progress through formal and informal tests and measures.Prepares annual review reports/progress summaries for each child in accordance with program due dates.Provides parent/guardian support and education.Attends meetings when invited as it relates to service provision.Plans and prepares the learning environment as well as materials and supplies.Treats all children with dignity, compassion, empathy and respect.Maintains confidentiality regarding children, families and other employees.Builds positive relationships based on respect for others. Demonstrates a helpful, positive attitude with an emphasis on maintaining a safe environment.Implements the daily program through a consistent daily/weekly lesson plan. Follows the safety guidelines and directives for the student.Assists with any communication devices and assistive technology.Performs other duties as assigned. This position requires a Master's degree from an accredited education program. The Special Education Teacher must hold a current special education teacher certification and must meet the requirements of the New York State Department of Education. The teacher must be prepared to teach students with varying degrees of learning aptitudes such as, but not limited to learning disabilities, social/emotional disorders, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, or traumatic brain injury.
