Job Purpose Honda Racing Corporation USA, a leader in motorsports racing, is seeking a highly organized and detailed oriented Hybrid/HV Powertrain Engineer II to join its Racing Program in Indianapolis, IN Work Style: Hybrid EX2 Hybrid/HV Powertrain Engineer: Travel to race and test events providing trackside engineering support to HRC customer and partner teams, oversee the engineering and operation of the electric hybrid powertrain/ERS, ensuring key goals of performance, optimization, and reliability are met. Make key decisions regarding powertrain and hybrid system operation and optimization, considering multiple factors including risk/reward and the big picture with respect to the overall performance. Implement strategies, software updates, develop data analysis, car performance differentiators, develop analytics/analysis at track and clear procedures and guidelines. Follow energy management process from simulation, refinement, testing, driver feedback. Ensure HV and electrical safety is maintained at all times. Qualifications, Experience, and Skills BS Degree in Engineering with emphasis in electrification, hybrid vehicle performance or equivalent work experience. 3+ years of working in a professional racing environment, preferably in a track support role. Experience with racing powertrains and related mechanical and electronic system - preferred electrical/hybrid powertrain experience. Previous report writing and database experience. Hybrid Hypercar, IMSA/WEC, Formula E, Formula 1 hybrid era experience beneficial. Understanding of high-performance engines/vehicles, both theoretical and practical experience. Energy management, deployment, regeneration, optimization. Traction and vehicle stability controls. Understanding of racing vehicle controls and data acquisition/telemetry systems, CAN bus expertise, troubleshooting and faults identification. Experience of control engineering in a motorsport environment. Knowledge of software lifecycles, development environment, source management and collaboration tools; mathematical modelling and simulation techniques and a nalytical and methodical worker. Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills. Competent hands-on skills with a variety of hand tools. Excellent computing skills, competent with main Microsoft products, McLaren System Monitor and ATLAS, Pi Research analysis software. Programming skills to include Python, Matlab, C# preferred. Proven ability to communicate information effectively both verbally and in written form to a wide variety of audiences. Previous experience working in a fast paced, time critical and sensitive environment. Ability to work in team environment and under minimal supervision; ability to be self-directed, detail oriented who can effectively work well under pressure in a diverse environment.
