The Peer Support Specialist primary responsibilities include: Providing flexible services aimed at supporting, directly or indirectly, persons served. This position provides expertise that professional training cannot replicate, a unique perspective to treatment, due to his/her own experience with substance use. They often draw from their personal growth experience to carry the message of hope and recovery to the people we serve. PSS's act as a consultant to other team members, helping them understand the persons' served perspectives and subjective experiences. This position has a high degree of personal integrity, generates positive energy, and makes a difference every day. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of job functions. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential requirement of this position. 2. Engage persons-served in problem solving, skill training, side-by-side activities, and monitor their well-being. 3. Provide and/or assist with transportation related to personal care, community living supports, employment and/or planned activities. 4. Participate in the Family/Guardian/Friends Liaison Program activities, building a friendly and open communication network with the natural supports of persons-served. 5. Function as a team member and actively participate in team staff meetings. Educational / Talent Requirements: 1. High school diploma or GED required. 2. Personable, positive, and enthusiastic attitude, with capability to deal effectively with people (internal and external). 3. Firsthand knowledge of substance abuse and of the characteristics and conditions experienced by consumer population. Work Experience Requirements: 1. Two years of related experience. 2. Certified Peer Support Specialist preferred. 3. Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator license. 4. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the use of technological advances that include, but is not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, NP Network, fax/copy machines, cell phones, etc.
