Combined with NYAM's trusted programming and historic library, and with the support of 1,800 accomplished Fellows and Members, NYAM's impact as a population health leader continues.Position Summary/Overview:We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Marketing Director to enhance our visibility, engagement, impact, and donor outreach. Reporting to the President, the position will be an integral part of the narrative of the organization. The candidate will lead the charge in telling NYAM's story and viewpoint. The candidate will be responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive marketing strategy to drive brand awareness, increase engagement, and support fundraising and programmatic initiatives. The ideal candidate is a seasoned marketing professional with a proven track record of developing high-impact campaigns, managing multi-channel marketing strategies including use of digital tools, and leading teams to achieve ambitious organizational goals. This is a unique opportunity to shape NYAM's brand and message that aligns with a new strategic plan and the vision of the organization. The Marketing Director should possess a mix of strategic thinking, creativity, leadership abilities and industry knowledge.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership & Planning: Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that aligns with NYAM's mission and goals. Ensure that all marketing efforts effectively support program-based work, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement. Extend NYAM's understanding of key audiences and how we can most effectively engage them. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal departments, including executive leadership, development, programs, and events, to align messaging, ensure consistency, and drive coordinated outreach efforts. Support the organization's leadership in external communications.Brand Management: Grow and protect NYAM's brand by ensuring clear, compelling, and consistent messaging across all platforms. Implement brand guidelines and oversee their implementation across all marketing materials. Demonstrate gains to NYAM's brand equity amongst key audiences. Content Development & Storytelling: Oversee the creation of compelling content"”including written, visual, and multimedia storytelling"”to powerfully communicate the organization's point of view, showcase its impact and engage key audiences. Digital Marketing & Social Media: Develop and execute data-driven digital marketing strategies, leveraging SEO, social media, email marketing, paid advertising, and website optimization to drive engagement and donor/client/partnership acquisition. Be adept in strategic use of AI tools to efficiently support content generation and communications.Public Relations & Media Strategy: Build relationships with journalists, media outlets, and influencers to secure coverage that elevates the organization's mission and impact. Prepare press releases, op-eds, and media kits.Data Analysis & Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and track the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and communication strategies. Use data insights to adjust strategies, improve outreach, and maximize return on investment. Establish methods for tracking the ongoing health of NYAM's brand. Team & Resource Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing marketing and communications team, including staff, contractors, and vendors. Manage marketing budgets, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.Innovation & Market Trends: Stay informed on industry trends, emerging marketing technologies, and best practices to ensure that NYAM remains at the forefront of nonprofit marketing strategies.A successful candidate will manage and maintain strong relationships with the Executive Leadership (President, Board of Trustees), the Events and Conference Center, the Development Office, SVP of Research and SVP of Finance and Administration Office.Qualifications:8+ years of progressive experience in marketing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Bachelor's degree required. Experience in the nonprofit sector is strongly preferred. Healthcare experience is also beneficial. Proven success in developing and executing high-impact marketing and communication strategies and a portfolio of successful marketing initiatives and campaigns.Strong expertise in digital marketing, social media (in particular, LinkedIn) and content strategy.Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editorial skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives Experience managing media relations, including securing press coverage.Demonstrated ability to leverage data and analytics to inform strategy and measure impact.Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring staff and managing external partners.Possess technical skills and ability to use appropriate tools necessary for conducting daily business.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Passion for health equity and commitment to advancing the organization's impact.This position is based in New York City. Staff work in a hybrid environment with some flexibility pending the needs of the department. The current expectation of this position is a minimum of three days a week on-site, in addition to staff or organizational events.
