JOB SUMMARY: The primary activity for the Research and Development Consultant will be to assist the Director of Research and Development to cultivate, maintain and communicate a thorough knowledge of the current utility vegetation management industry. Responsibilities also include public speaking at Arboricultural conferences and contributing articles to industry trade publication. Further, the successful candidate will manage projects and provide support in several utility vegetation management-related areas. These include strategic consulting, short-term field project management, and business analytics (e.g., industry analytics and market research). In addition, this role will assist on existing contracts under the guidance of the Director of Research and Development. This position is responsible for supervising project Consulting Utility Foresters (CUFs), project planning, organizing, and monitoring work processes. Identifies opportunities to develop urban forestry projects with municipal utilities and municipal forestry operations.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:Provides ongoing training and expertise to clients and project CUFs, specific to industry standards, laws, regulations, academic knowledge, research, technology, and field experience.Visit clients and provide field verification of data.Read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and data.Create and maintain project budgets and analyze financial data.Attain or maintain industry related certifications (ISA Certified Utility Specialist, ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and Tree Risk Assessment Qualification.Provide project planning and logistic support to Director of R&DAssist with RFP responses and write project reports.Help promote on-the-job safety practices.Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures.Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.Public speaking on arboricultural topicsContributing articles to industry trade publications.OTHER DUTIES: Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.Position requires extensive travel (50% or more at times, depending upon needs).During emergencies or natural disasters may be required to be on duty for the duration of the disaster.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's Degree in Natural Resources or related field.3+ years of experience preferred.Supervisor experience is preferred but not required.ISA Certification or ability to attain within 1 year; Utility Specialist TRAQ credential preferred.Promote and uphold the Eocene Environmental Groups mission, vision, and core values within the company.Possesses a growth mindset and eagerness to learn new things.Must live within one hour of a commercial airport, location is negotiable.Interest and experience in urban forestry is preferred.Ability to work long hours (including evenings and weekends as needed).Must be able to work in diverse work settings, as time will be divided between in office and outdoor environments.Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:Strong verbal and written communication skills.Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other data collection software (GIS experience a plus).Ability to travel.Ability to work both independently and as a team.Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors.
