Kochan & Stephenson is searching for an experienced paralegal to provide legal and administrative support to two partners.We are a plaintiff's-side employment litigation firm representing victims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation with compassion and tireless conviction for over 30 years. We take on a select number of cases, work on all of our cases together, and provide our clients personalized, high-quality representation.As the third member of our practice, you will work closely with the two partners and our clients. This is a full-time, salaried position, ideal for someone with experience in a professional legal support role who is accustomed to litigation and would be able to hit the ground running by May (or earlier). Prior paralegal experience at a civil litigation law firm and experience with California state and federal court systems is highly preferred. If you are detail-oriented, proactive and passionate about employment law, we encourage you to apply!Responsibilitiesâ— Case Management: Assist attorneys in managing caseloads by organizing and maintaining case calendars, case files, documents and correspondence. Track case deadlines, court appearances, and discovery timelines.â— Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research using various resources to support attorneys in case preparation, drafting legal documents and formulating strategies.â— Document Preparation: Draft, review, and edit legal documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas and discovery requests. Ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with court rules and procedures.â— Discovery Support: Coordinate and manage the discovery process, including document collection, review, production and privilege analysis. Prepare discovery requests and responses, ensuring compliance with procedural rules and discovery obligations. Conduct first-level document review for relevance, privilege and confidentiality. Assist with redactions, Bates stamping and production log creation.â— Document Management & E-Discovery: Identify, collect, and preserve relevant documents and electronically stored information (ESI) for litigation. Work with clients and custodians to gather responsive records, ensuring compliance with discovery obligations. Utilize e- discovery platforms (e.g., Everlaw) to process, review, tag and manage ESI efficiently. Implement and track legal holds, ensuring proper data preservation protocols. Coordinate with third-party vendors to oversee document processing and production formatting.â— Administrative Tasks: Handle administrative duties such as managing calendars, scheduling appointments, processing billing and expenses and maintaining electronic and physical filing systems.â— Client Intake: Review intake forms and conduct initial interviews with potential new clients.â— Trial Preparation: Assist in trial preparation by organizing exhibits, witness lists and trial binders. Coordinate logistics for court appearances and manage courtroom technology during trials.Requirementsâ— Experience: Ideally 4+ years of experience as a paralegal. Experience in a small law firm or litigation boutique is advantageous.â— Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation, case management and administrative tasks.â— Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of litigation procedures, legal terminology and court processes. Familiarity with federal and California rules of civil procedure.â— Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.â— Ethical Standards: Strong ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of work.â— Tech Savviness: Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft suites.
