Overview: Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a 49 year old multi-service not-for-profit organization based on the settlement house model and located in the Bronx. We provide resources for Bronx residents from cradle to career to advance education and well-being for a vibrant community. KHCC serves over 5,000 families annually with an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-income families, recent immigrants, survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and at-risk teens. KHCC helps participants overcome adversity and develop the skills they need to build bright futures. KHCC is seeking a food intern/volunteer for our biweekly food pantry distribution. This person will help maintain an inclusive, diverse community of volunteers, champions and visionaries for KHCC to best serve vulnerable populations with access to food, resources, information, support, and new opportunities for our participants. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: â— Support the KHCC Food Pantry distribution. â—‹ Prepare food items and supplies for food distribution to community members. â—‹ Which may include organizing items for client choice based on provided menu guidelines. â— Support the Food Justice Manager with maintaining a clean, safe pantry storage area. â—‹ Cleaning of the food pantry space and removal of trash and recycling. â—‹ Stocking storage space with incoming delivery. â— Take direction from the pantry staff and buildings and grounds team to ensure the pantry operates at full capacity. â— Work outside for extended periods of time (light rain, heat, etc.). â— Supervise interns and volunteers ensuring a safe environment and following food safety guidelines. â— Maintain accurate volunteer records. â— Complete relevant and mandatory training in a timely fashion. â— Participate in regular staff meetings and required trainings; â— Patience and caring attitude toward pantry participants/clients; â— Perform other job-related duties as assigned Qualifications: â— Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US â— Willing to undergo fingerprinting and background checks in accordance with federal, state and local lawsâ— HS Degree/GED (Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or Community Organizing is preferred but not required) â— Some experience working with food â— Good judgment skill, Creativity, Patience, Enthusiasm, lots of energy â— Caring attitude towards school-aged children â— Clean New York State driver's license is a plus but not required â— Proficiency in Spanish required (minimum intermediate conversational Spanish) â— *Lifting objects in excess of 25+lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 24 lbs. or more. â—‹ Including regularly standing, bending. Kneeling â— Working outdoors for extended periods of time including in inclement weather. Physical Demands: â— While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; handle, or feel; talk, hear, smell or taste. On rare occasions it may be necessary to move quickly, run, etc. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
