OSP Engineer II - Houston, TX (77039)The Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Design Engineer is responsible for detailed fiber optic network design, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices. This role requires close collaboration with field teams, drafting personnel, and project managers to deliver high-quality designs that support outside and inside plant communication facilities.Key Responsibilities:Develop high-level preliminary route designs and provide guidance for fielding requests.Support new fiber network designs for small cells, macros, third-party integrations, and ODN.Ensure designs are completed within budget and project timelines.Provide regular updates on project progress, identifying potential roadblocks to engineering leads and project managers.Generate and maintain detailed documentation, including fiber budgets, splicing schematics, and construction plans.Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and design accuracy.Project Execution Responsibilities:Create KMZ files for high-level designs, notices to proceed (NTPs), cost estimates, material orders, and BOMs.Perform detailed fiber network design using GIS-based systems.Support jurisdictional permit applications by preparing necessary design drawings.Track project milestones and provide regular updates to stakeholders.Assist with quality control and as-built updates, incorporating design changes as needed.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent work experience in OSP fiber design and splicing.Strong knowledge of OSP fiber optic infrastructure, construction methodologies, and fiber splicing techniques.Familiarity with fiber network construction, including aerial and underground routing.Ability to work independently, multitask, and resolve design issues quickly.Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.Technical Competencies:Fiber network planning and routing for both aerial and underground installations.Manhole design, including splicing and racking.Experience with ODN, CRAN, fiber splicing, and terminal installations.Understanding of OTDR testing and analysis.Knowledge of CAD, GIS-based systems, and KMZ file generation.Familiarity with construction best practices and constructability principles.What you didn't know about us:Competitive salaryHealth, Dental and Vision BenefitsShort/Long Term Disability and Critical Care/Illness ProtectionLife Insurance and Retirement PlansEmployee Assistance ProgramWith this position, you will get the opportunity to work with our game changing clients and further advance your already valuable experience in the telecom industry!We are Connectors.
