Job Responsibilities:Financial Planning and AnalysisMust be willing to work in the home office in West Des Moines, Iowa.Lead the annual financial planning and reforecasting processes for the Company, collaborating closely with the Controller and department leaders.Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic initiatives, medium and long term business planning, and decision-making processes.Provide insightful analysis of financial performance, including variance analysis, stress testing, and key financial metrics, to senior management and key stakeholders.Monitor and analyze industry trends, conduct benchmarking, competitive landscape, and economic factors that may impact the Company's business.Prepare management reporting packages and presentations for executive leadership, highlighting financial results, trends, and opportunities.Evaluate and improve financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy of the financial planning and forecasting processes and results.Develop and perform expense studies to continually evaluate expense allocations.Performs analytical review of and writes notes for the monthly financial report.Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure business performance and inform decision-making.Assess financial risks and opportunities, recommending strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.Partner with department leaders to support strategic initiatives, create pro-forma financial models, evaluate investment opportunities, and assess financial implications of business decisions.Responds to inquiries from the Controller and other Company Executives regarding financial results and special reporting requests.Prepares a cash flow projection to indicate cash shortfalls or excess funds available for investments.Assist with building out the Company's reporting and analytics capabilities as it relates to the financial information, including ensuring timeliness, completeness, and accuracy.Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to financial reporting and analysis.Works with Controller to evaluate FP&A software technology needs.Additional ResponsibilitiesAssists in the training and development of staff based on the needs of the accounting department.Assist with the development and implementation of internal controls over financial reporting.Research, prepare, and execute accounting department initiatives, systems implementation, and other special projects.Assist with financial training to increase financial acumen of associates.Assist with year-end audit process and State examinations.Qualifications: Education and Experience: BA/BS with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, or Economics or work equivalency. MBA or CPA preferred.Technical Skills and Prior Experience: Five to seven years of experience in in financial planning and analysis, preferably within the insurance industry.Skills and Knowledge: Strong understanding of insurance financial metrics, such as loss ratios, combined ratios, and underwriting performance. Strong proficiency in financial modeling and analysis, including advanced Excel skills. Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner. Above average interpersonal, supervisory and customer service, ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines, detail orientation, accuracy, honesty and integrity, delegation, follow-through, takes initiative, time management, confidential, decision making, analytical, and ability to build relationships.Knowledge of Statutory Accounting principles.Experience with large automated accounting and financial planning systems preferred. Must have strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications. Proficiency with PC hardware and peripherals.
