Location:Calumet City, IL, United StatesEmployment Type:RegularCategory:Engineering & TechnologyPosting Date:Feb 23, 2025Position SummaryWe are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in production equipment and utility systems, process technology, and plant operating practices. This role also involves coordinating the PSM/RMP program, troubleshooting the Delta V process control system and Aspen IP.21 data historian, and championing continuous improvement from project ideation through execution. The position includes site representation for process design and new product scale-up activities, collaborating with R&D, Recipe Industrialization Engineer, Pilot Plant, and plant operations. Additional tasks may be assigned by the Plant Manager. This role has one Process Engineer and one Capital Engineer reporting to it and requires 10-20% travel.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProduction Support (50%)Develop and maintain production procedures (BOPs) and the operator training program to ensure safe and efficient operations.Build and maintain BOMs and other relevant site SAP data.Troubleshoot and resolve Delta V issues to support ongoing production.Track production efficiency and capacity utilization, addressing trends as needed.Drive continuous improvement through OpEx and CAPEX project work.Support shutdown planning activities and execute tasks as assigned.Comply with site HES policy and all regulatory and internal requirements, including safety or environmental incident investigation and closure.Support the site ISO 9001:2015 program, including ongoing QRA.Report quality KPIs, monitor trends, and drive continuous improvement.Resolve customer complaints in a timely manner.Ensure alignment with the RC 14001 program managed by the site QHES Manager and support integration of management systems where sensible.PSM/RMP Program Management (35%)Ensure process safety information is accurate and complete, including mass and energy balances, design calculations for emergency relief equipment, and the list of critical interlocks.Develop and maintain operating procedures.Lead incident investigations using appropriate RCA tools and ensure implementation of effective corrective actions.Facilitate PHAs and Facility Siting studies, tracking action items through closure.Manage MOC approval routing and track the status of action items through closure.Share ownership of training plans, safe work permits, and emergency response plans with the QHES Manager, and PSSR with Maintenance and Plant Engineer.Personnel Management (15%)Mentor and develop a team of production/process engineers.Utilize HR tools to set clear goals, monitor performance, and provide feedback.Minimum Qualifications and Education RequiredExperience:Minimum 10 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.Education:B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering.Working knowledge of PSM, RMP, ISO, Responsible Care preferred.Competencies - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.Supervisory or alternate leadership experience preferred.Ability to multi-task and effectively manage stress in a fast-paced work environment.Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.High level of attention to detail and accuracy in work products.Strong leadership skills.HES RequirementsSupport the site HES policy and comply with all regulatory and internal requirements.Participate in HES activities provided by site management (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).Support and promote the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident, or injury incidents.Physical Demands/Working ConditionsThis position is mostly office-based.Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.Frequent presence in production or plant areas is required.
