POSITION:De Marillac Academy seeks a talented and committed teacher to contribute to a positive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and socio-emotional wellness for all students. DMA teachers serve as the academic and disciplinary leaders. In addition to providing direct classroom instruction, teachers partner closely with our Academic Resource program and school counseling teams to provide holistic care and communication to students and their families. Teachers also serve as mentors to the Associate teacher on their grade-level team. The ideal candidate will strive to create an environment where students can achieve their highest potential, as measured by demonstrable academic and social gains.The ideal candidate will possess relevant classroom experience; strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; flexibility; comfort with a variety of tasks/roles; and a commitment to Catholic education. The teacher is an integral member of the teaching team in developing and enhancing established curriculum, as well as modeling a culture of learning and professionalism at De Marillac Academy.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for teaching Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) instructionDesign and implement STEM curriculum in line with California Common Core StandardsCollaborate with co-teacher to create and maintain curriculum maps and lesson plansCollaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, and families for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomesEvaluate student learning outcomes utilizing various assessment methodsUse research-based, effective pedagogical techniques, and student performance data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practicesDifferentiate for students who need additional support and work with the Academic Resource Program specialist to accommodate the wide variety of learning levels present in the classroom through personalized instructionMaintain grades and student records and provide consistent feedback to students weeklyImplement consistent and respectful classroom management procedures, consistent with school protocolInitiate regular communication with students and families about academic and overall progress through class meetings and conferences with familiesPrepare progress reports/report cards, keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessaryEstablish and maintain school expectations of student behavior and classroom environment utilizing restorative justice practicesMaintain an effective co-teacher dynamic with the Associate Teacher in the classroomUse relevant educational technology and programs to support instructionOrganizes field trip opportunities and/or guest speakers to enrich units of studyMonitor student socio-emotional health and well-being and partner with students, families, and administration to develop healthy relationships, self-care, and emotional regulationADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Supervise breaks/lunches, Community Time, and enrichment activities, as assignedParticipate in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of discussing relevant issues, developing skills, and learning best practices required to perform functionsAttend all staff and professional development meetings, required for faculty/teachersProvide support for emergency teaching needs as they ariseParticipate in employee orientation prior to the start of the academic school yearCollect and report on grades, test scores, and other metrics and utilize data to make informed decisionsUphold and live out the values of De Marillac Academy's Community CovenantPerform any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administratorRequired:Bachelor's Degree Teaching Credential (or in progress of obtaining one)2-3 years of teaching experienceExperience working with middle school youth and familiesPassionate commitment to social justice and educational equityOpenness to embracing and promoting the Lasallian Vincentian mission and identity of De Marillac AcademyStrong interest in building community and fostering relationshipsProficient in Microsoft 365 products, Google Suite, and Google ClassroomRequires some long hours working at the computerSome evening and weekend responsibilitiesAbility to lift 30 poundsPreferred:Master's DegreeBilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese and EnglishFamiliarity and sensitivity with working with underserved and historically marginalized communities.COMPENSATIONSalary ranges from $80,000 to $98,000 based on qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package is provided, including a transportation stipend.
