If so, Shepley Motor Express wants you on our team!About the RoleAs Logistics Manager, you will lead the operational and strategic management of Shepley's trucking operations, retail cartage sales, and FOB HMA sales. You will be the primary point of contact for Shepley's trucking business, ensuring efficiency, profitability, and compliance while fostering a high-performance culture.This position will have direct reports, including the Logistics Coordinator, Customer Service Representatives, and Shepley Drivers.Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Logistics ManagementOversee dispatching and trucking activities, including asphalt mix, aggregates, lowboy equipment moves, AC hauling, and construction trucks.Manage fleet size, backhauls, and capacity planning to optimize trucking efficiency.Coordinate plant scale house support and raw material inventory levels.Identify and maintain material dump locations and ensure compliance with all requirements.Business & Financial PerformanceP&L accountability- Monitor financial performance, job-specific trucking costs, and profitability.Establish annual trucking rates, haul rates, and capital/repair budgets.Lead business development efforts, nurturing customer relationships to expand external hauling opportunities.Review trucking reports (AR/AP/Payroll) for accuracy in collaboration with accounting.Drive innovation to streamline operations, cut costs, and enhance efficiency.Leadership & Team DevelopmentRecruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team, fostering leadership and accountability.Maintain a culture of integrity, transparency, and excellence aligned with company values.Execute annual performance reviews and implement development plans to promote career growth.Safety & Regulatory ComplianceEnsure adherence to DOT, OSHA, and environmental regulations while maintaining up-to-date compliance records.Implement safety training programs and oversee incident reporting.Networking & Relationship ManagementServe as the primary liaison for Shepley's trucking customers and Union Partners.Maintain productive third-party hauler relationships, ensuring adequate fleet capacity.Develop and execute a new hauler orientation program.Build a strong network within the industry, marketplace, and community.Qualifications & Skills Expertise in construction trucking operations, technology, and equipmentStrong data analysis, budgeting, and financial acumenDeep understanding of safety regulations (DOT, OSHA, MSHA, First Aid)Knowledge of Chicagoland logistics, unions, traffic patterns, and regional regulationsProficiency in logistics & construction software: Microsoft Office, Teams, Slack, XBE, Motive, Laserfiche, Spectrum, Personal SkillsStrong leadership- Inspires and develops teams, holding them accountable for excellenceExcellent communicator- Open dialogue, ethical decision-making, and conflict resolutionHighly organized- Manages multiple responsibilities efficientlyProblem-solver- Adapts quickly, resolves trucking issues, and navigates complex logistics challengesRelationship builder- Works well with internal teams, vendors, and external haulersWhy Join Shepley Motor Express?Shepley Motor Express has been family-owned and operated since our inception, building a legacy of excellence in the trucking and construction industry.
