Job Description Quaise is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to assist in developing lab-scale and field-ready mmW drilling systems. The primary role is to design, build, and test in rapid fashion to bring direct energy drilling to market at an accelerated pace. You will work with a team to design components and systems for directed energy drilling systems and test fixtures, select and integrate process equipment, test, and analyze results. This is a generalized role with high growth potential into specialized areas focused on structural design, controls & instrumentation development, dynamic system design, heat transfer system design, or test & analysis depending on candidate's aptitude and interest.Essential functions (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.)Develop dynamic testing and operating drilling systems for the Quaise mmW Drilling System.Structural design for drilling experiments, including analysis of complex geometry using FEAIdentifying and sourcing sensors and actuators to monitor and control experimentsHeat transfer analysis on mechanical and electrical componentsDesigning and carrying out testing, including Design of Experiments.Data collection and post-test analysis for experiment documentation.Develop and integrate hardware needed for lab experiments and full-scale drilling systems.Material selection per project requirements to optimize strength, electrical or thermal conductivity, or fatigue life depending on component application.Ability to troubleshoot and recover is a mustWork with vendors and manufacturers to specify and source custom and commercially available components needed for this effort.Performs other related duties as assigned.CompetenciesDynamic system design, including linear and/or rotating motion.Complex structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis tools, particularly ANSYS Mechanical.Component design for downhole tools.Heat transfer analysis.Material selection to meet design requirements.Instrumentation selection for control and monitoring systems.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficient with Microsoft Project or other project planning software.Ability to interact well with customers and co-workers, in the field and the office.Supervisory responsibilitiesMay supervise the work of contractors to ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.No direct supervision of Quaise employees is expected for this role.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree or higher in engineering fields related to mechanical disciplines is required (Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, Robotics).4+ years of related experience in industry in a design-focused rolePhysical requirementsThe employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, as well as use hands to feel, reach, grasp, handle, or operate objects, tools and/or controls.The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, transfer, or move items up 50 pounds at times for departmental needs.Ability to move from one worksite to another or travel to various job sites and locations to complete tasks.The vision requirement includes reviewing written and electronic materials in digital and physical format.The employee must be able to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed considering the strong focus on external communications and relationships.Other dutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required of the employee for this job.
