Join our community and experience Emerson College!The Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) at Emerson College is seeking an OEO Investigator who will support the Colleges compliance with Title VI, as well as all issues of discrimination and harassment under Title VII, Title IX, 151B, ADA, and Rehabilitation Act Section 504. The OEO Investigator will also address issues of sexual violence under Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act, and other relevant laws. The OEO Investigator will be responsible for investigating matters under the Colleges Policy Against Discrimination, Harassment & Sexual Violence, including issues arising under Title VI. The OEO Investigator manages case intakes, conducts investigations, and maintains case data related to reported conduct in these areas for students, staff, and faculty. Additionally, the OEO Investigator helps to develop and deliver training programs across the campus on these critical issues.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIESIntakeIntake reports of discrimination, harassment, and/or sexual violence by students, staff, faculty, and third parties, providing information about support resources and options for addressing the conductMaintain detailed records of all intake information in the case management systemContinue follow-up as needed to provide support updates and determine the next stepsPrepare any documentation needed to initiate a formal complaint or informal resolutionsMeet with the responding party, as needed, to initiate formal complaints or to facilitate informal resolutions, and to provide information about support resources and answer questions about the processInvestigationAct as a neutral, independent investigator to conduct prompt, thorough, impartial investigations of reported incidents by interviewing all parties and relevant witnesses and by identifying and gathering other information and documents relevant to the resolution of the complaintPrepare detailed investigative reports analyzing factual information gathered, outlining undisputed facts, and making credibility assessments, as appropriate.Communicate with parties regarding process status and complaint outcomesEngage in regular professional development on best practices regarding investigating issues of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violenceCase Data ManagementMaintain detailed records of all investigations and communications within relevant OEO and campus data systemsProvide analysis of statistical case data for annual reports related to incidents of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence. Assist in annual Clery reporting and other mandated data reporting.TrainingProvide expertise in developing, managing, and updating the university-wide training curriculum for Titles VI, VII, and IX and ADA/504 trainingConduct and coordinate training and facilitated conversations for faculty, staff, and students on issues of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violenceMaintain records regarding participant training in the OEO data management system.SupportSupport AVP in reviewing and analyzing any changes in laws or best practicesSupport AVP in reviewing, creating, and implementing policies and procedures regarding issues of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violenceAssists in the development of required climate surveysAct as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator or ADA/Section 504 Coordinator as needed when AVP is unable to act in those rolesQUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to perform this job effectively.A bachelors degree is required; a Juris Doctorate or other advanced degrees are preferred.3-5 years of experience conducting investigations/complaint resolutions on issues of discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence in human resources, higher education, or other civil rights-based positions required. Experience investigating claims under Title VI is preferred. Experience delivering discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence prevention training is a plus. Experience in investigating complex issues, including those arising under Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, ADA, Rehabilitation Act Section 504, Massachusetts General Laws c. 151B, VAWA, Clery Act, and other relevant laws required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - This may be representative but not all-inclusive of the knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.
