Director of Origination, Distributed GenerationLocation: Hybrid NYCEmployment Type: Full-time, PermanentThe CompanySourcechange is representing a private equity-backed Independent Power Producer in North America on their search for a Director of Origination for their Distributed Generation team. This company provides clean energy infrastructure to a diverse range of clients, including utilities, C&I entities, educational institutions, and municipal sectors.With a portfolio exceeding 1.8 gigawatts of DG projects across more than 30 states, the organization is leading efforts toward a zero-emissions future. Their services include on-site and off-site solar solutions, energy storage systems, electric vehicle infrastructure, and energy efficiency enhancements. As a subsidiary of a prominent sustainable investment firm, the company benefits from substantial funding and extensive operational expertise.The RoleThe Director of Origination will be a pivotal member of the Origination team, reporting directly to the Vice President of Origination. This role is responsible for identifying and securing mid-stage, late-stage, or greenfield distributed generation opportunities, encompassing both solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The Director will leverage an established network and collaborate with internal teams to drive these opportunities from inception through acquisition or direct development.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement outreach strategies for all products and technologies under development, ensuring alignment with key customer messaging.Research and identify new origination prospects in target markets, focusing on behind-the-meter solar, front-of-the-meter solar (including community solar), battery storage, fleet electrification, and related areas.Prepare and deliver high-quality proposals in response to requests for proposals (RFPs) from investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, municipal utilities, commercial and industrial customers, universities, and other entities.Assist in negotiating letters of intent (LOIs), power purchase agreements (PPAs), leases, and other definitive agreements.Collaborate with Technical Sales, Financial Structuring, and other departments to develop project models and proposals, facilitating the progression of awarded projects to capital committee approval and closing.Maintain comprehensive records of submitted proposals and pricing models.Stay informed about target market policies, upcoming policy changes, market risks, opportunities, competitors, and potential new channel partners.QualificationsBachelor's degree or higher preferred.Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience.Strong interpersonal, sales, networking, leadership, negotiation, and time management skills.In-depth knowledge of solar and energy storage power systems.Comprehensive understanding of the electric utility industry, energy markets, and renewable energy incentives.Proficiency in financial modeling and familiarity with LOIs, PPAs, leases, MIPAs, DSAs, and related distributed energy transactional agreements.Proven ability to originate and close deals, consistently meeting or exceeding sales goals.Demonstrated track record of closing renewable energy transactions valued at $5 million or more across multiple markets and counterparties.Experience with a minimum of 50 MW of closed distributed energy transactions.Extensive network of established developers, real estate owners, corporate accounts, or similar relationships.What This Role OffersOpportunity to play a significant role in a dynamic and growing team dedicated to advancing renewable energy solutions.Exposure to a wide range of distributed generation projects and technologies.Collaborative work environment with cross-functional teams.Potential for career advancement within a leading organization in the renewable energy sector.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary commensurate with experience.Performance-based bonus structure, reaching up to 150% of base compensation.
