The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the worlds largest nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of uncrewed systems and robotics, represents corporations and professionals from more than 60 countries involved in industry, government, and academia. AUVSI members work in the defense, civil and commercial markets. We pride ourselves on being the leading trade association serving a growing autonomous vehicle industry sector including drones, automated and remotely operated ground and maritime vehicles, and their related components and systems.The OpportunityThe Association is seeking a dynamic and strategic individual to join our Advocacy team as the Manager of Communications. This key role will work closely with the VP of Public Affairs, as well as the government affairs, marketing, and cross-functional teams, to enhance the organizations visibility and industry influence. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and collaborative communicator who can balance the needs of our membership base while expanding our presence across media, industry events, and advocacy efforts.As the Manager of Communications, you will be responsible for creating and executing integrated communications strategies that promote the Association's value to members, while maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders including policymakers, industry partners, and the media.You will be responsible for...Strategic Planning: Develop and execute integrated communications strategies that align with the Association's goals and advocacy efforts.Media Relations: Cultivate media relationships, write press releases, and serve as the primary media liaison.Public Speaking: Manage speaking engagements for leadership and identify high-impact opportunities.Member Engagement: Create newsletters, email updates, and content that drive membership growth and retention.Advocacy Communications: Lead messaging for advocacy initiatives and policy positions.Event Promotion: Support communications for conferences, trade shows, and webinars.Crisis Communications: Lead crisis communication efforts and develop mitigation plans.Digital Strategy: Manage the Association's digital presence and social media campaigns.Internal Communications: Facilitate communication across teams to ensure alignment with strategic goals.Stakeholder Relations: Build relationships with key external stakeholders and develop advocacy materials.QualificationsBachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field (Master's degree or relevant certification is a plus).3-5+ years of progressive experience in communications, preferably within a trade association, professional society, Capitol Hill, government agency, or a related industry.DC/DMV-based candidates preferred.Strong experience in media relations, public affairs, and policy communications.Proficiency with communication platforms (e.g., CMS, social media management tools) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Ability to manage multiple projects and work under aggressive deadlines.Demonstrated ability to manage crisis communication and advocacy campaigns.What you will gain!Competitive pay and benefits package including medical, dental and vision coverage; disability and life insurance; retirement plan with matching contributions; annual performance bonus, flexible work schedule, and casual dress workplace.
