We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Maintenance Supervisor for our 3rd shift operations at our Chicago facility. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of plant equipment, ensuring safety, and minimizing downtime to keep production running smoothly. The Maintenance Supervisor will manage a small but growing team (currently 2 individuals with plans to expand to 6). This position requires strong leadership, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to work in a demanding steel manufacturing environment.Key Responsibilities:Maintenance & Equipment Oversight:Supervise and coordinate the maintenance and repair of plant equipment such as cranes, CNC machines, saws, ovens, and other heavy machinery.Work with hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, valves, and cylinders.Conduct routine plant walkthroughs to identify potential issues, ensuring critical equipment is running optimally.Oversee the completion of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.Team Supervision & Leadership:Lead a team of maintenance technicians, providing guidance and support for day-to-day tasks.Conduct daily shift meetings to assign tasks and set priorities.Provide on-the-job training to improve team skills and troubleshooting abilities.Manage personnel issues including performance reviews, scheduling, and discipline.Troubleshooting & Repairs:Respond quickly to emergency breakdowns and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues.Collaborate with engineers and production managers to identify and resolve recurring equipment failures.Safety & Compliance Enforcement:Ensure adherence to OSHA and plant safety regulations.Enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and conduct pre-shift safety talks.Inspect maintenance tools and equipment for safety compliance.Investigate and report any safety incidents within the maintenance department.Inventory & Spare Parts Management:Monitor and manage the inventory of critical spare parts and maintenance supplies.Work with procurement to reorder essential materials as needed.Track usage of tooling, lubricants, and other consumables required for daily operations.Reporting & Documentation:Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance work and downtime events.Update the CMMS system with maintenance logs and work order details.Provide daily reports on equipment status, repairs, and pending maintenance tasks.Coordination with Other Departments:Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance without disrupting operations.Work with engineering to improve equipment reliability and performance.Assist the quality control team in ensuring equipment meets required specifications.Continuous Improvement Initiatives:Identify opportunities to reduce downtime and enhance equipment performance.Suggest and implement efficiency improvements for plant machinery.Participate in meetings to discuss plant improvements and future projects.Qualifications:Must Have:5+ years of experience in maintenance supervision, including at least 2 years as a lead and 3 years as a supervisor.Strong background in steel manufacturing or heavy industry (machine shops, equipment manufacturing, etc.).Hands-on experience with heavy equipment such as cranes, CNC machines, saws, ovens, and more.Solid experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, valves, and cylinders.Ability to work in a hot environment (steel is melted overnight, increasing temperatures).Previous experience in a unionized environment is preferred.Familiarity with CMMS upgrades; knowledge of systems like Emate is a plus.Proven leadership abilities, including managing small teams, overseeing hiring, disciplinary actions, and performance management.Willingness to get hands-on with mechanics or electricians as needed.Nice to Have:Trade certifications (ME/EE/MET/EET) or additional training.Experience with combustion equipment and daily equipment inspection/maintenance.Ability to perform routine plant walkthroughs to monitor equipment status.Strong troubleshooting skills with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.Work Schedule:3rd shift: 10:30 PM - 6:30 AMIf youre a results-driven Maintenance Supervisor with hands-on experience in heavy manufacturing environments and are looking for a leadership role that encourages growth, we want to hear from you.
