Infrastructure Optimization Engineer to build and support a specialized services practice focused on reviewing, optimizing, and upgrading DC power plants, rectifiers, and large wet-cell batteries in telco colocation and head-end facilities. This role will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for telco-specific energy and power infrastructure, collaborating closely with field services teams to deliver best-in-class solutions for our customers.Technical Skill Set• Serve as the SME for the optimization and maintenance of critical power and cooling systems in telco facilities, including DC power plants, rectifiers, large wet-cell batteries, UPS systems, generators, inverters, and power distribution systems.• Evaluate and recommend upgrades for HVAC systems, CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units, economizers, and thermal management solutions to enhance cooling efficiency and reliability in high-density environments.• Lead assessments and troubleshooting of electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, and circuit breaker panels.• Develop and implement best practices for the lifecycle management of power and cooling assets, including preventive maintenance and failure mitigation strategies.• Work closely with customer project teams to evaluate their power and cooling needs, propose optimized solutions, and assist with presenting ROI analyses for recommended upgrades.• Serve as a liaison between the customer, field service teams, and utility providers to ensure clear communication and timely resolution of project-related issues.• Deliver technical training and resources to field service teams to ensure proper execution of system upgrades and maintenance tasks.• Conduct Functional Performance Testing (FPT), load testing, and thermal efficiency testing for power and cooling systems to validate upgrades and optimize performance.• Use data from Building Management Systems (BMS) and power monitoring tools to analyze performance trends, identify inefficiencies, and recommend improvements.• Provide guidelines and best practices for end customer to monitor and evaluate energy savings using utility interval data, ensuring alignment with utility program requirements and validating incentive calculations.Experience• Power and Cooling Systems: Minimum of 7+ years of hands-on experience in evaluating, optimizing, and maintaining critical power and cooling systems, including DC power plants, rectifiers, wet-cell batteries, UPS systems, generators, inverters, HVAC systems, CRAC units, economizers, and thermal management solutions in telco or data center environments.• Infrastructure Expertise: Proven experience with electrical distribution systems, such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breaker panels, and power distribution units (PDUs).• Energy Efficiency: Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing energy efficiency improvements, including securing utility incentives and rebates.• Field Collaboration: Experience working directly with field service teams to implement, troubleshoot, and test power and cooling system upgrades in live operational environments.• Data-Driven Decision Making: Expertise in leveraging Building Management Systems (BMS), power monitoring platforms, and thermal imaging tools to analyze system performance and recommend improvements.• Telco-Specific Facilities: Prior experience working in colocation, central office, or head-end telco facilities, with a clear understanding of industry-specific challenges and requirements.• Educational Background:• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).• Professional Certifications (Preferred / Optional):• DC Power Plant Specialist (DCPS)• Certified Energy Manager (CEM)• Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP)• Project Management Professional (PMP)• HVAC-related certifications, such as EPA Universal Certification or NATE (North American Technician Excellence).• Battery Maintenance Certification or IEEE-related training.• Industry Knowledge:• Familiarity with industry standards, including IEEE, NEC, NFPA, Telcordia GR-63, and ASHRAE thermal guidelines for telecommunications facilities.• Strong understanding of utility incentive programs, rebate processes, and compliance requirements.
