We are seeking motivated and skilled Maintenance Mechanics to join our team and contribute to our continued success and growth in the Aluminum industry. This is an on-site position based at our Goose Creek, SC facility.Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for fabricating, installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, operating and maintaining all types of machines, equipment, structures and facilities in a safe and orderly manner as directed by a Maintenance Supervisor.Five (5) years industrial mechanical maintenance experience preferredFormal Apprenticeship or equivalent trades training is desirableVocational or high school graduate or equivalentPhysical Requirements:The tasks listed are the most physically demanding tasks required of the Maintenance Mechanicposition.1) Standing: This role requires standing on concrete (constant basis).2) Walking: Worker is walking on concrete floors during the shift (constant basis).3) Strength: A. Lifting: Worker is required to lift equipment, tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs., setting up of scaffolding. B. Carrying: Carrying various parts and tools weighing up to 50 lbs. C. Pushing/Pulling: Utilizes hand tools such as cheater bars to change out parts, pulling ropes, utilizing pulleys or block & tackle. Some torque involving applying up to 250 ft. lb. of pressure.4) Climbing: Of steps and of ladders on top of crane (occasional basis).5) Balancing: Good balance skills required in being on top or sides of high equipment, having to tie off to prevent falls.6) Bending: Occasional during the changing out of parts.7) Kneeling: Frequent8) Crawling: Frequent9) Reaching: Full ROM of UE required to change out parts, works overhead with tools.10)Handling: Good manual dexterity required, works with hand tools, pneumatic tools, jackhammers, changes out hoses, couplers and motors. Worker also is required to perform welding activities. Tools and equipment also include machine parts, metal stock, pipe, tubing, fittings, bolts, nuts, washers, compressed gases, oil grease, paint, insulating materials. Maintenance Mechanic may be required to use tools such as drill presses, saws, grinders, breaks, benders, shears, iron workers, pipe cutting and threading equipment, welding, burning and metal joining equipment, hoists, cranes, testing equipment, joiners, planers, mortar and concrete mixers, brooms, shovels and trowels.11)Squatting: Frequent12)Sitting: Occasional (estimated 1 hour per shift)13)Positions: Maintenance Mechanic is often working in tight, awkward positions to repair or PM equipment. Difficult to utilize proper body mechanics. Responsibilities:Must demonstrate the ability to comply with all Century Aluminum and plant PPE requirements and safety protocols.Must possess the skills and abilities to work autonomously while conducting routine mechanical tasks.Familiar with the handling, operation and safe use of all types of Mechanical Equipment including hydraulic systems, gearboxes, conveyor equipment, vibrating feeders, hammer mills, cranes, mechanical drives and assorted industrial equipment.Tools and equipment used are hand tools, measuring devices, power tools such as drill presses, saws, grinders, breaks, benders, shears, iron workers, pipe cutting and threading equipment, etc. Welding, burning and metal joining equipment, hoists, cranes, mobile equipment, test instruments, gauges, equipment ladders, scaffold, hand and power tools common to the trade.Read and work from blueprints, sketches, charts, manuals, instruction books, diagrams and other information and instructions. Fill out reports and other necessary paperwork.Troubleshoot, dismantle, repair, assemble, inspect, test industrial equipment, machinery, structures and facilities. Install, inspect, maintain and repair piping systems, associated fixtures and equipment. Perform cutting, welding, brazing and soldering work with metal sheet and plate, including the necessary layout work.Operate cranes, mobile equipment, and erects and disassembles scaffolding in conjunction with repair work.Perform necessary painting and related cleaning and surface preparation.Actively participate in crew and plant safety programs.
