Job Title: IN-ISP Equipment Mechanic TraineeLocation: 8500 E. 21st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46219Job ID - 757514Key Responsibilities:• Serve as a civilian employee of the ISP to keep all commissions in the best possible mechanical operating condition and remove police equipment from vehicles no longer used for patrol (for admin use or state sale).• Perform preventive maintenance and complete repair work as assigned.• Notify appropriate personnel of any major issues and keep work orders updated.• Order parts and maintain garage stock room.• Assist in unloading supply trucks and loading old tires, oil drums, etc.• Participate in training for new procedures and skills to maintain state-owned commissions.Essential Functions and Job Requirements:• High school graduate or GED certificate.• Valid Indiana drivers license.• Ability to lift and move heavy automotive objects.• Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.• Ability to distinguish colors and sounds.• Ability to work in close and confined areas and maintain confidentiality.• Ability to diagnose problems on vehicles and operate assigned tools/equipment.• Must be able to perform mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and computer-related repairs.Duties:• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on accessories, antennas, camera systems, deck lights, flashlight systems, fuses, light bars, mirror lights, motorcycle and trailer wiring, computer docking stations, and radio equipment.• Maintain various logs and use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and find problems.• Test drive vehicles to ensure proper functioning.• Perform building custodian duties as required by the Division or District Commander.• Additional duties as required.Physical Effort and Work Environment:• Work is typically performed in a garage environment with extended periods of standing, close quarters, exposure to hazardous materials, and heavy lifting.• Routine tasks will involve sitting, standing, crouching, kneeling, and lifting heavy objects.
