Specialized Recruiting Group is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician for a full-time opening with an engineering firm in the Raleigh, NC area.As a Field Technician, you would conduct site investigations, perform laboratory and field tests, and collect data to assess soil, rock, and groundwater conditions for engineering projects. This position works closely with geotechnical engineers and plays a crucial role in providing accurate information for design and construction. This position offers a salary of $70,000 - $90,000, depending upon qualifications. Additional benefits include Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance, matching 401(k), and three weeks of Paid Time Off.Responsibilities **Conducting geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.Logging soil and rock samples and performing field classification.Installing and monitoring geotechnical instrumentation (e.g., piezometers, inclinometers).Overseeing and managing subcontractors conducting drilling or testing.Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and project specifications.Conducting field density tests, permeability tests, and other geotechnical evaluations.Analyzing soil, rock, and groundwater conditions to assess stability and foundation suitability.Preparing detailed geotechnical reports and recommendations for construction projects.Assisting in the design of foundations, retaining walls, slopes, and earthworks.Collaborating with engineers and project teams to interpret data and provide solutions.Coordinating with contractors, clients, and regulatory agencies.Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal geotechnical regulations.Supporting environmental assessments and remediation projects as needed.Providing technical guidance on soil stabilization and ground improvement methods.Desired **Undergraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Geology.2 years (minimum) of related Geotechnical Field experience.Approval by NCDOT Geotechnical Engineering Unit for Field Professional services (i.e. logging boreholes) strongly preferred. Otherwise, ability to obtain approval with training and support within 90 days of hiring required.Ability to read plans, interpret topographical and geologic mapping resources, and utilize software such as CAD and GIS to review project documents related to field investigations.Orienteering skills, strong sense of ingenuity, and can-do attitude.Ability to work with a team of diverse individuals on both field and office-oriented tasks. Ability to traverse rough terrain, work in adverse weather, and lift up to 75 pounds.Strong communication skills as it relates to directing drilling or other field-testing crews, coordinating with utility locators, and interacting with private property owners.If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, we want to hear from you!
