Jr. Mechanical Engineer***** Battelle Memorial Institute - Medical Devices teamHybrid - Columbus, OH6 M Contract-to-HireJob **As a Jr. Mechanical Engineer, you will be a core team member in the design and development of medical products and systems. This role contributes to all phases of product design including initial requirements definition, conceptualization, and feasibility assessment/demonstration; detail design including engineering analysis and testing; verification and validation testing and documentation; transfer to the client and follow-on support as needed. Projects typically involve multidisciplinary teams so you will regularly interface with electrical, software, systems, human factors, and other engineers as needed for the project. You will work closely with the program manager as both an individual contributor and or a technical lead responsible for guiding other engineers also depending on the needs of the project.Major *Develop mechanical products, subsystems and/or componentsWork with technicians and or hands-on assembly and testing work in the labWork with Project Management and task leads to complete tasks within budget and scheduleGenerate design, development and support documentation following QS/ISO processes and proceduresCommunicate results and progress using written and oral communication to project leadershipParticipate in shaping the product design through upfront brainstorming and concept generation, as well as defining functional needs, system requirements and verification methodsApply creative thought and state-of-the-art technology to solve technical design problems throughout the entire development processRequired *Strong organizational and time management skillsStrong interpersonal communication and presentation skills (verbal, written, and visual)Creative problem solving and analytical skillsMotivated team player experienced with working in diverse teamsAbility to conduct technical activities with minimal directionSelf-starter initiative and mindset for continuous learningRequired *B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited universityHands on general lab skills e.g. building and testing prototypesFluent using SolidWorks (preferred) or Creo along with PDM or Windchill vaultsU.S. CitizenPreferred ****Experience working in the field of mechanical engineering as full-time or internMedical device or consumer product design experienceDesign for plastic injection molded part experienceDesign for manufacturing experience e.g. machined parts, sheet metal, packaging of electronics/cables, etc., for commercial productsLiterate in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5-2009Experience using FEA analysis tools with a strong preference for ANSYS and/or Abaqus and plastic part experienceUnderstanding of the FDA Quality System Regulation (QSR) and involvement in an ISO13485 operational environment
