Position Summary:Black & Veatch is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer 5 to join our team. This role is crucial for reviewing and evaluating fire protection requirements for a variety of facilities, including Power Plants, Oil & Gas processing plants, Water Treatment Plants, and Data Centers. The Fire Protection Engineer will apply state and local fire protection codes, perform hazard analysis, design fire protection systems, and manage project-specific needs.Key Responsibilities:As a Fire Protection Engineer 5, you will be responsible for analyzing and evaluating facility and equipment to determine appropriate fire protection requirements for various projects, including power plants, oil and gas facilities, water treatment plants, and data centers. You will generate detailed technical documents, such as hazard analysis reviews, fire protection specifications, piping diagrams, and hydraulic calculations.You will ensure all designs comply with fire protection codes and regulations, such as IBC, IFC, and NFPA. You will also review sprinkler, alarm, and suppression system designs for compliance, communicating with local officials and handling city variance requests when necessary.In addition to technical work, you will proactively manage fire protection requirements for both internal and external clients, maintaining regular communication with all stakeholders and coordinating approvals from local authorities. You will oversee project progress, ensuring high-quality results and timely completion, all while maintaining adherence to safety standards and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.Qualifications:Education:A Bachelors or Masters degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.Experience:A minimum of 8 years of experience in fire protection engineering or related fields, particularly in industrial settings such as power plants, oil and gas facilities, water treatment plants, or data centers.Certifications:Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and actively pursued or possess a Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering.Preferred Experience:Experience with Power Plants, Oil & Gas facilities, Water Treatment Plants, or Data Centers.Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles, construction practices, quality control, and procurement processes.Skills:Strong communication and project management abilities.Problem-solving and conflict-management skills.Ability to handle ambiguity and maintain a drive for results.Knowledge of construction and constructability principles.A customer-focused approach to meeting project needs while prioritizing safety.
