Open to: General PublicWork Week: 3 days per week (21 hours per week up to 900 hours per fiscal year)Salary: $23.00 per hourOpening Date: 2/18/2025Closing Date: 3/11/2025Existing Vacancies: 1Program/LocationDepartment of Environmental ProtectionOffice of the CommissionerOffice of Environmental Justice401 East State StreetTrenton, NJ 08625Scope of EligibilityOpen to applicants who meet the requirements below.DescriptionUnder the close supervision of a Program Specialist 3, Program Specialist 4, or other supervisory officer in a State department or agency, as am hourly and productive worker, receives on-the-job training while assisting in the professional, administrative, and analytical work to promote the planning, operation, implementation, monitoring and/or evaluation of human or social service programs, programs serving the socio-economic needs of specific clients populations, or regulatory programs designed to ensure public safety, health and welfare, or protection of the environment; completes assignments which provide practical Program Specialist experience; does other related work.Specific to the Position• The appointee will assist specific DEP Program areas in developing and implementing the Departments Environmental Justice (EJ) Action Plan and provide coordination efforts relative to the incorporation of environmental justice considerations across all Department activities.• The appointee will serve as a staff liaison to the Department's Environmental Justice Advisory Council (EJAC), ad 18-member volunteer body that advises the DEP Commissioner on strategies to integrate environmental justice into the Department's work. The employee will plan and schedule EJAC meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and coordinate EJAC workplan projects.• The appointee will review and comment on various Department documents in need of EJ review by the Office.Preferred Skill SetExperience working collaboratively in teams. Comfort with interacting with the public and attending various public or community events, including during evening hours.RequirementsApplicants must meet one of the following, or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.Four (4) years of professional experience relevant to the position.ORPossession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.NOTE: "Professional experience" refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the professions concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting.
