Job Title: Economics EngineerLocation: Jackson, MI (Hybrid Schedule)Contract: 12-months with opportunity for extensionDescription:The Economics Engineer is responsible for foundational economic and engineering analyses related to implementing various engineering projects for the company. This includes levelized cost of energy modelling, economic analysis of power purchase agreement pricing terms, and ad hoc analysis related to energy markets, capacity markets, and energy generation. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving organizational processes and deliverables including visual management, standard work, problem solving, and waste elimination and applies principles of energy economics, including energy market integration, risk and reliability assessments and Environmental analyses to energy projects. Support renewable energy electric generation strategy including renewable energy solicitations, power purchase agreements, and various regulatory filings.Provide economic justification and support of company strategy regarding future adoption of new generation resources, electric vehicle growth, customer electrification, grid modernization, or other impacts to the utility.Collaborate with customers, coworkers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects. Provide meaningful interpretation of complex analyses and present technical results to highest levels of leadership to inform company strategy.Ensure economic support for strategy decisions conform to regulatory, legal and legislative standards and customer requirements, monitor and quantify the impacts of external forces on the utility business.Ensure compliance with specifications, regulatory requirements, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating, documentation, support, or testing activities.Provide analytical support with a focus on energy market, capacity market, and complex pricing terms analysis with some supervision. Write reports, compile data, create and deliver presentations, support and/or sponsor testimony and exhibits as a witness regarding existing and potential electrical engineering projects and studies.Design, develop and perform model simulations of electrical systems and products. Training and mastery of complex software systems or analyses is required.Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.2- 4years Experience with programming languages; Experience modeling cost estimating, analysis and budgeting (Required)Foundational economic modeling and analytical skills (existing work is primarily in Microsoft Excel; potential to reevaluate analytical tools in the future) Broad Knowledge.Attention to detail Basic Knowledge.Analytical and problem-solving skills Basic Knowledge.Knowledge of regional transmission operator market operations, foundations of utility business practices Broad Knowledge.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Broad Knowledge.Knowledge in cost control and financial data analysis Limited Knowledge.Data management and organization skills Broad Knowledge.Knowledge of engineering principles, and the economics underlying electric power generation Basic Knowledge.
