High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Electrical Engineer with a focus on Power Semiconductor Applications to join our interdisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for formulating and executing detailed test plans for high power semiconductor devices for use in electromagnetic systems. This role demands a deep understanding of high power semiconductor devices and high voltage environments, specifically systems operating at voltages greater than 20kV. The candidate will be involved in the entire testing lifecycle, from design and planning to execution, analysis, and reporting. This position requires a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience to ensure the integrity, safety, and performance of our systems. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers. Our small group will allow the candidate to experience, contribute, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary nature from conception all the way through to operation. The candidate must be a high-performing engineer with technical pedigree in High Voltage Testing. Candidates must be strong team participants, have excellent communication skills, be resourceful and creative, and be willing to contribute to a multidisciplinary and fast-paced engineering environment.Core Responsibilities:Formulate and execute comprehensive test plans to evaluate power semiconductor devices and modules, operating under high voltage and high current conditionsDesign, build, and operate testbeds to execute test plans for the evaluation of power semiconductor devices and modulesMaintain and calibrate high voltage test equipment (100s of Volts to 100s of kilovolts) to ensure accuracy and reliability of test resultsWork with diverse teams of engineers and technicians to conduct tests to evaluate power semiconductor devices and modules for use in high voltage and high current systems and subsystemsGather, decipher, and analyze datasets to extract meaningful insightsCompile technical documentation, encompassing design specifications, test reports, and operational manualsUphold a secure and hazard-free laboratory setting to ensure the safety of all personnelTechnical SkillsetsSolid grasp of the fundamentals of power semiconductor devices, including Diodes, MOSFETs, IGBTs, and ThyristorsRobust foundation in high power testing, complemented by hands-on experience with high voltage (up to 20kV) and high current laboratory environmentsCapability to formulate and execute system and component level test plansProficiency in utilizing a range of test equipment, including oscilloscopes, high voltage probes, and high current probesExpertise in orchestrating and conducting experiments, inclusive of using instrumentation to gauge key system metricsCompetence in performing statistical analysis and data visualization, deriving significant insights from intricate datasetsKey CompetenciesKnowledge of power semiconductor devicesElectrical Test Plan Development and ExecutionDecision-making and problem-solvingAbility to interpret, generate, and implement electrical schematics and test systemsEffective communicationTime management and organizationTeam CollaborationRequirements:Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related fieldStrong foundation in the fundamentals of power semiconductor devices, including Diodes, MOSFETs, IGBTs, and ThyristorsExperience testing power semiconductors in high voltage and high current environmentsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsEffective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentMust be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or equivalent clearanceUS CitizenAvailable for moderate levels of travel and off-site workMay require moderate physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying, or lifting up to 50 poundsWorking environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated, moderate physical hazards may existPreferred Qualifications:3+ years' experience in high-power test engineering including power systems, power electronics, high voltage, and high current systemsKnowledge of Pulsed Power and Power Electronic systemsActive DoD Top-Secret ClearanceSARA offers a competitive benefits package to include:Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; and other supplemental programsA generous PTO program (vacation, sick, holiday)Tuition & certification reimbursementFlexible work schedulesDiscretionary Employee bonuses401(k) match/profit sharingEmployee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)Pay Range:Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $130,000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA's total compensation package for employees.
