Senior and Mid Ground Software Engineer - Onsite, Irvine, CA. X 2 positions Are you passionate about developing mission-critical ground software systems that power space missions?A leading space technology company is seeking a Senior Ground Software Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced tools and applications essential for mission operations. This is a full-time, onsite role based in Irvine, CA, perfect for someone with deep expertise in ground software systems, mission control, and space operations.Due to the sensitivity of the work, this position requires onsite presence five days a week.As a Senior Ground Software Engineer, you will:Lead the development of ground software systems that enable satellite operations, mission monitoring, and spacecraft telemetry analysis.Architect scalable, secure systems for Mission Control Systems (MCS) and real-time spacecraft operations.Develop tools and interfaces for commanding, controlling, and monitoring space assets.Collaborate with GNC, AI, and mission operations teams to ensure seamless integration of software into mission-critical workflows.Build automation and diagnostic tools to improve efficiency in mission operations.Work closely with operators and engineers to identify and address mission-specific challenges.Deliver intuitive, user-focused solutions for complex ground software tasks, ensuring reliability under high-stakes conditions.What You'll Need:Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).5+ years of experience developing ground software for mission-critical systems in the aerospace, defence, or similar industries.Expertise in designing and implementing systems for satellite telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C).Hands-on experience with mission operations workflows and ground control systems.Strong understanding of real-time data processing and visualization.Proven ability to work on systems requiring high reliability and uptime.Flexibility to be on call and work extended hours for mission-critical operations.Eligibility for Secret and/or TS/SCI clearance.Preferred Skills and Experience:Experience with ground station communications, spacecraft command systems, and telemetry pipelines.Familiarity with industry-standard protocols, such as CCSDS or other spacecraft communication standards.Knowledge of mission planning, scheduling, and automation tools.Experience integrating ground software with flight software systems.Exposure to satellite operations in low-earth orbit (LEO), geostationary orbit (GEO), or deep space missions.Familiarity with orbital mechanics and space situational awareness (SSA) concepts.Technical Stack:Languages: Ruby, Go, PythonCloud: AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, etc.)Additional Tools: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelinesDatabase: Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra)Protocols: CCSDS, telemetry, and command systemsFrameworks: Experience with microservices and API developmentNice to Haves:Background in space domain awareness (SDA) or debris tracking systems.Experience with high-fidelity simulation tools for spacecraft operations.Involvement in missions requiring ground-to-space data transmission or ground station networks.A passion for space exploration and a commitment to advancing interplanetary missions.What You'll Get in Return:Competitive Salary: Based on experience.Health Coverage: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.Retirement Plan: Access to a 401(k) with company matching.Paid Time Off: Generous vacation days, personal days, and holidays.Professional Development: Opportunities for training, workshops, and courses.Inclusive Culture: A diverse and welcoming environment with regular team-building activities.Are you ready to make a tangible impact on space exploration by advancing the next generation of ground software?
