About the jobKnightwerx is looking for an experienced Mid/Sr. Level Mechanical Engineer to join our growing R&D team. As a subject matter expert in mechanical design, the Mechanical Engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop low SWaP sensor technology as well as small unmanned electric aircraft tech from the ground up. We operate in a fast-paced development environment that balances innovation and ingenuity with practicality and reliability. You will be involved in every aspect of the engineering process from clean-sheet design and prototyping to outdoor testing, customer interaction, and manufacturing.RequirementsMust have US citizenshipOn-site, collaborative work environmentWork Experience· Bachelors or higher degree in relevant engineering discipline· 5 or more years experience developing mechanisms and mechanical hardware· Experience with full product development lifecycle from concept development through production· Hands-on experience with low SWaP sensor tech, small unmanned systems, or model aircraft desiredAttributes· Innovative, hands-on, and practical· Multi-disciplined, problem solver, driven by engineering analysis· Goal driven, learns from mistakes, and closes the loop on the design process· Communicates well through discussion and documentation· Works well with others to develop plans and solve problemsPrimary Duties and Tasks· Take ownership of significant portions of the sensor development process including mechanical design, analysis, fabrication, testing, and production· Participate in conceptual design and development of mechanical system architecture· Develop trade studies and risk reduction tests to validate designs· Work with external suppliers to quote and procure mechanical hardware· Fabricate mechanisms and test setups using standard prototyping methods· Work with management to develop realistic timelines and scope of work to achieve project goalsSkills and Expertise· Demonstrated competence in mechanical design including development of lightweight metallic and composite mechanisms and structures, as well as sealing methods· Experience with complete mechanical engineering lifecycle from design through manufacturing· Demonstrated understanding of material properties and structural analysis· Ability to work within a fast-paced research and development environment· Proficiency with Solidworks and Microsoft office suiteAbout KnightwerxKnightwerx is a start-up company that was born to be game-changing.
