We have expertise in RF, EMP, Pulsed Power, Acoustics and Threat Warning Systems, and we prioritize partnering with our customers to address real-world problems with cost-effective solutions... that work.The SARA High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and imaginative Senior Electrical Engineer - Diagnostic Instrumentation to support research and development activities and transition innovative technologies to the DoD, DoE, and their contractors in Colorado Springs, CO. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers. Our small group will allow the candidate to experience, contribute, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary nature from conception all the way through to operation.The Senior Electrical Engineer - Diagnostic Instrumentation to execute advanced electrical measurements across diverse test environments, conducting diagnostics from slow, distributed to ultra-fast, localized scenarios. The role involves designing and implementing test beds in laboratory settings, supporting electrical measurement across complex technical domains, and executing precision diagnostic techniques. We seek a skilled engineer capable of navigating intricate measurement challenges, contributing to technological innovation and mentoring junior engineers, with a focus on comprehensive electrical measurement and technical problem-solving.Core Responsibilities:Plan, develop, and implement advanced diagnostic measurement systems, primarily for electromagnetic domains, but also for other physical domains such as thermal, mechanical, and opticalPerform precise data acquisition across test scenariosTechnical Expertise:Expert in time/frequency domain measurementsAdvanced electromagnetic physics understandingMastery of diagnostic instrumentsProficient in:Differential/single-ended measurementsNoise characterizationEMC/EMI testingGround reference systemsSkilled in Fourier analysis, transient response, complex system interpretationFocus: High-precision electrical measurements with deep physical insightRequirements:Bachelors degree with 8+ years of experience (or Masters degree with 4+ years or new PhD) in Electrical Engineering or PhysicsDemonstrated expertise in diagnostic testing and measurement systems Advanced proficiency with diagnostic equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, network analyzers)Strong data analysis skills using Excel, MATLAB, and MathcadProven track record of complex field and laboratory testingAvailable for up to 25% travel for on-site testingExperience working in varied test environmentsSelf-motivated with demonstrated ability to work independentlyStrong problem-solving skills with resilience in challenging situationsExcellent documentation and technical communication abilitiesProven ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environmentsTrack record of continuous learning and skill developmentUS Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD Top Secret security clearanceMay require moderate physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 25 poundsWorking environment is mostly indoor, moderately loud at times, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated, moderate physical hazards may existPreferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience (or Master's with 8+ years or PhD with 4+ years) in Electrical Engineering or PhysicsActive DoD Top Secret or DoE Q clearanceProgramming proficiency in test automation languages (Python, C++, C#)Demonstrated potential for technical leadershipExperience mentoring junior engineers in diagnostic techniquesBackground in automated test developmentFamiliarity with electromagnetic modeling toolsExperience with custom diagnostic system designKnowledge of signal integrity and high-speed measurementsBackground in writing test procedures and measurement methodologiesSARA offers a competitive benefits package to include:Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; and other supplemental programsA generous PTO program (vacation, sick, holiday)Tuition & certification reimbursementFlexible work schedulesDiscretionary Employee bonuses401(k) match/profit sharingEmployee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)Pay RangeSalary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $100,000 to $160,000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA's total compensation package for employees.
