Selected candidates will have the opportunity to grow, lead, and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-term programs and new programs supporting the DoD, DoE, and their contractors. The HPEM Division is looking for an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative Research Engineer to support rapid Research & Development (R&D) activities in Colorado Springs, CO.The ideal candidate should be an exceptional engineer with experience and interest in any combination of the following areas:Power Systems (studies, transient simulation, protection system design and testing, substation and switchgear design and commissioning)Electrical Engineering (analog or digital circuit design, testing, system integration)Pulsed Power (Switches, high current, and voltage, electromagnetics theory and design)Signal Processing (signals analysis methods, DSP, statistics, machine learning, control systems)Core Responsibilities:Perform engineering calculations and apply electromagnetics first principlesSolve engineering problems using modeling and simulationExecute engineering studies, self-guided but with peer oversightWrite detailed technical reports and maintain comprehensive project documentationDevelop specifications and design specialized testsWrite concise technical reports and deliver technical briefingsMultitask and effectively collaborate with small engineering teamsRequirements:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field6+ years of experience in Power Systems, Electrical Engineering, Pulsed Power, or Signal Processing, OR Master's Degree with 4+ yearsExperience using data acquisition equipment including multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, voltage probes, current probes, or spectrum analyzersExperience with relevant software such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, Mathcad, Dip Trace, SPICE, Aspen, SKM, RTDS, or EMTPPassion for researchCritical thinking and problem-solving skillsExcellent decision-making and leadership capabilitiesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skillsAdaptabilityExperience working cooperatively in team environmentsStrong writing and presentation skillsAbility to learn new skills and take new responsibilitiesUS Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain TS DoD security clearanceMay require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 50 poundsWorking environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated, moderate physical hazards may existPreferred Qualifications:PhD with relevant research in Power Systems, Pulsed Power, EMP, Electromagnetic Compatibility and Compliance, Signal Processing, High Voltage Physics (1s to 100s of kilovolts), or Digital and Analog Controls8+ years of relevant experienceExperience testing and setting digital protective relays or commissioning switchgearExperience in analytical modeling and the scientific processExperience in test design or requirements developmentTeam leadership experienceConflict resolution experienceActive DoD TS or DoE Q security clearanceSARA offers a competitive benefits package to include:Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance; and other supplemental programsA generous PTO program (vacation, sick, holiday)Tuition & certification reimbursementFlexible work schedulesDiscretionary Employee bonuses401(k) match/profit sharingEmployee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)Pay RangeSalary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $110,000 to $180,000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA's total compensation package for employees.
