Job Title: Composites Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace & Motorsports)Location: Indianapolis IndianaDepartment: Engineering/ManufacturingReports To: Engineering ManagerJob Type: Full-TimeJob Overview:We are seeking an experienced Composite Manufacturing Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and development of high-performance composite structures and components for race vehicles, industrial, aerospace and defense. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of composite materials and a passion for contributing to the optimization of structural performance through advanced material technologies. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the structural integrity, performance, and safety of composite components in a wide variety of industries, contributing to the advancement of lightweight and high-strength technologies.Key Responsibilities:Design, Analysis & Build: Develop and analyze composite materials and structures for prototype builds in a wide range of industries. Material Selection: Collaborate with suppliers to select appropriate composite materials based on project requirements, including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and Kevlar.Structural Integrity: Perform detailed analysis and testing to ensure the strength, stiffness, and durability of composite structures.Manufacturing Support: Work with manufacturing teams to optimize the production of composite parts, including processes like autoclave curing and lay-up techniques.Testing & Validation: Design and oversee testing procedures, including static, fatigue, and environmental testing, to validate the performance of composite components.Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, detailed manufacturing instructions, and failure analysis reports.Research & Development: Participate in R&D initiatives focused on improving composite material properties, manufacturing techniques, and applications.Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other engineers, project managers, sales and customers to deliver new and existing projects on time and within budget.Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Composite Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.Experience:5+ years of experience in composite materials engineering, preferably in the aerospace or racing industry.Strong knowledge of composite materials, fabrication methods, and industry standards.Proficiency in CAD software - 2D and 3D modeling.Skills:Complex Problem Solving "” Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.Excellent understanding of mechanical and thermal properties of composite materials.Critical Thinking "” Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Familiarity with composite testing methods (e.g., non-destructive testing, shear testing).Effective communication and technical writing skills.
