RESPONSIBILITIES:· Create engineering proposal drawings via AutoCAD, proposing and recommending improved seal solutions through designs and/or materials for the application.· Occasionally, we use Solid Works to create 3D sealing solutions for rod, piston, and rotary shaft applications. FEA modeling is a plus but not required.· Plan and modify product configurations to meet customer needs.· Support daily engineering work activity including the engineering dispatch list.· Utilize material properties of elastomers and thermoplastics to verify proper material selection for application and associated operating parameters.· Use in-house specialized calculation and software tools· Use classical engineering analysis, often by hand, to verify designs. (hydraulics, fluids, pressure, and force, bending, stress/strain, thermal expansion, friction, torque, springs)· Indirectly sell products by problem solving which requires technical sealing expertise specific to the application, including factors such as speed, temperature, application, media, and pressure.· Confer with customers and other engineers to assess needs and to determine sealing solutions. Customer base may be both: MRO & OEM· Prepare and deliver technical presentations that explain products or services to customers and prospective customers.· Provide technical and non-technical support and services to clients or other in-house staff members regarding the design and materials of sealing solutions.· Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements, to promote the sale of company products, and to provide sales support.· Based on customer requests, conduct a seal failure analysis & write a report determining root cause and recommendation to correct the problem.· Effectively communicate with customers via phone, e-mail and video conference software. REQUIREMENTS:· Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering - or - · 4-year MET Degree, with highly relevant experience· Excellent presentation and customer relationship and communication skills· Expert working knowledge of AutoCAD; Proficient in Solid Works· Strong tactical planning and project management abilities· Excellent Computer skills including Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook· Knowledge of elastomers, thermoplastics, seals, and fluid power applications preferred· Travel: may be asked to visit customers on an as needed basisPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Sit [75%], Stand [25%], Lift [up to 25lbs], Walk, Bend, Stoop, Reach, Push, & Pull, as well as Finger/Hand dexterity. WORK ENVIRONMENT: In office, Garfield headquarters and occasional customer visits.
