***** Mechanical Engineer, Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS)Join us on our mission as we transform energy storage to enable a more sustainable future. We are looking to add a Mechanical Engineer, Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) to our Cell Engineering and Manufacturing Development team. This individual will be responsible for designing and scaling QuantumScape's unique solid-state lithium metal batteries for high volume production. This work includes designing first-of-its-kind automation equipment from proof-of-concept through deployment. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES• Design, test, and validate manufacturing equipment from conception through production qualification• Work hands-on alongside process engineers to troubleshoot and develop solutions that increase yield and performance of cell manufacturing processes• Manage relationships with suppliers for product and manufacturing components • Provide feedback on cell design based on performance, cost, DFM, and DFA• Conduct mechanical analysis and experimentation to validate design choices • Collaborate with cell build process teams, equipment design teams, safety, quality, metrology, and production teams to execute critical path projects SUCCESS FACTORS• Embrace new challenges, learn new techniques, and surpass internal goals• Curious, hands-on approach to problem-solving• Shares a real passion for our mission and vision of a carbonless future• Demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness allowing smooth adaptation to a constantly evolving environment and work priorities• Possesses a can-do spirit and is a collaborative leader and teammate• Organized, meticulous, and has clear written and verbal communication skillsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS• BS or higher degree in mechanical engineering, material science, or similar concentration• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design, mechatronics, or manufacturing • Proficiency with at least one major CAD package (AutoDesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, etc.)• Experience with mechanical & thermal simulation (ANSYS, Comsol, etc.) • Proficiency with controls architecture is a plus • Experience with of lithium-ion batteries is a plusPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS• Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills• Sitting or standing for extended periods of time• Reaching and twisting motions with hands• Lifting up to 25 lbs.This position is required to work onsite at our campus in San Jose, CA.Compensation & ***** Salary range for this role has a range of $194,200 to $310,800, and a final salary will be determined by the candidates experience and educational background.
