Job Description:BerkleeNYC invites applications for a Part Time faculty member in the Live Experience Design Department.The Master of Arts in Creative Media and Technology, Live Experience Design Specialization explores a forward-thinking approach to the design, management, and execution of live productions spanning music and the arts, through corporate and sporting events. Students will receive training in performance technologies including sound design, lighting design, projection mapping, LED panel technology, stage design and management, computer aided design, and video production, all supported by experiential opportunities. Immersion into entrepreneurship, storytelling, and design thinking will round out a comprehensive toolkit for aspiring creatives in the live experience space.Reporting to and under the supervision of the Program Director of Live Experience Design, the ideal candidate will have content expertise and be skilled in pedagogical practices that engage students and make education relevant. Additionally, they will be student-centered and dedicated to the role of Live Experience Design in the education of artists.As a recognized professional in this topic area, the faculty member will be responsible for teaching:Sound Design for Live Events: Students enrolled in CMAT 575 - Sound Design develop mastery of the sound aspects of a live event. Initial focus will be on working effectively as a stage hand, A2, A1, front of house engineer, monitor engineer, playback engineer, and theatrical sound designer. Additional focus will be placed on storytelling and artistically conveying emotion through sound, safety, standard practices, situational awareness, efficiency, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. The course is structured around the design, technical direction, and operation of many streaming and installation events with class members functioning as the producers, designers, programmers, operators and crew. The events are complex artistically, technically, and logistically. Specific focus is placed on system integration, information technology, spatial audio, complex lighting cues, multiple audio mixes, live video processing, streaming from multiple locations, and presenting a smoothprofessional show with complex technical requirements under tight time constraints.QUALIFICATIONSAll Faculty, staff and students are required to be fully vaccinated in order to participate in any activities on campusExperience teaching at the university level (preferred)Record of creative scholarship/professional activityStrong communication and interpersonal skillsCommitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusionExtensive professional experience as a theater sound designer, live sound engineer and studio recording engineerStrong experience with Ableton Live for mixing editing and playback in live event contextsKnowledge of integrating sound with digital lighting systems, and broadcast video technologiesEnthusiastic about innovations in theater, concert, broadcast and installation sound technologyRESPONSIBILITIESTeach 1 section of Sound Design for Live events: a 3-hour graduate-level course offered on campus at 441 W53rd street NYC.Hold weekly office hours on campus, advising students in the Masters of Arts in Creative Media and Technology program at BerkleeNYCServe as faculty advisor as needed for students in the above program, including serving on the jury for culminating experience thesis projectsLead and support students in the production of theatrical, broadcast, installation and concert events.Teach a wide range of production technologies focused on, but not limited to, sound design, live sound audio mixing techniques, digital signal processing, microphone techniques, wireless audio technology, and sound system specification and tuning.Demonstrate to students professional working practices in live event productionRelate in-class work to real-world professional situationsSupport students in their artistic and technical developmentDemonstrate how sound design supports the meaning of the art and enhances the audiences and performers experiencesSubmit syllabi for all courses assigned, which will be developed collaboratively with the Program DirectorAttend Department meetings and contribute to the faculty community of Live Experience Design, BerkleeNYC, and BerkleeHold weekly office hoursContribute to the development of the Live Experience Design program.Engage in professional development to maintain and continually advance teaching skillsSubmissions: Electronic applications only.
