Title: Lab Chemist Starting Pay: Up to $25/hr depending on experienceLocation: Detroit, MichiganShift: 5a - 2p or 730 - 330 - Flexible start and finish timesWill work every third Saturday Qualifications1 - 5+ years of lab chemistry experience preferably with waste streams Would like them to have RCRA and TSCA experience but not a mustThey will calibrate and diagnose instrumentation to run analysis on waste streamsThis is a lab environment for waste streams so will be dirtier than other lab environmentsWill be working with hazardous materialsOur client is looking for a Lab Chemist I to work in their lab performing analysis and characterizations of waste streams. This will involvechemical analyses of various types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to determine compliant treatment and disposal, using a variety of analytical techniques and instruments.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents using approved EPA test methods and US Ecology Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).Participates in the generation of SOPs and Work Instructions (WI), under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager.Prepares samples for laboratory equipment.Utilizes and understands essential functions for instrument sequencing and data processing (performs basic instrument maintenance and repairs as needed, performs analytical standard preparations, and maintains all required documentation with accuracy and clarity).Validates methods for testing the content of organics, inorganics using a wide variety of processes and instrumentation.Performs a satisfactory Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) prior to data reporting for any method the chemist will be conducting analysis. Maintains a satisfactory annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for each method.Identifies chemical content of materials and conducts research on appropriate treatment studies.Provides technical knowledge to help develop formulas, enhance or create processes, and methods for solution of technical problems.Maintains a clean and safe work environment.Maintains familiarity with quality control measures and calculations required for applicable methods.Performs other, related duties as assigned. These are duties may not be specifically listed in this description, but which are within the general nature typically associated with the employee's level of work.SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA): Knowledgeable of chemistry principles and practices including analysis and evaluation, and waste processing protocols.Required skills include performing proper analysis;Presenting findings in a concise formatAddressing difficult situations in a constructive mannerUtilizing computer technology for communication, data gathering and reportingNegotiation and problem solvingBuilding a rapport with associates and managersdetail oriented, with a high level of accuracy and the ability to detect inconsistencies in dataAwareness of quality management standards, including ISO and NELAC standardsKnowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint applications is essential.Education/Experience: 1+ years combination of education and experience requiredKnowledge and understanding of RCRA, TSCA, and applicable state regulations, typically gained through five or more years of progressively responsible experience in waste disposal, chemistry, or a related fieldSuperior knowledge of the USE software package as it relates to waste streams and reporting
